Lowell 1st grade ELs have been learning about "How do we get what we need?" focusing specifically on how we get the food we need.

This week, Grace Traini from Food Corps came in to help students make strawberry jam and learning about its journey from farm to factory to supermarket to home! Each student had a different role in the process and practiced the key vocabulary they had been learning in context. :) Raven Deuth Lowell Elementary Waterloo ELLs

2nd Graders learned about land and water forms in ELL group. They read articles about each land form or water form, created a definition, and then built a diorama to show what they had learned. Students got to present their dioramas and definition posters to their homeroom classes! Waterloo ELLs Lou Henry Elementary

Music is a great tool for teaching language! This ELL at Lowell Elementary kept requesting to hear the “Kiki” song, so his teacher did some authentic practice for sight words and “ing” vocabulary

These 5th grade ELLs are in a co-taught classroom at Lou Henry. They're exploring how meanings of words change when an affix is added or subtracted.
