⚠️ EXTREME COLD CAN DO WEIRD THINGS ⚠️ As temperatures crash well below zero, you may hear loud bangs, cracks, or booms outside. No, it’s not transformers blowing or anything exploding. 👉 It can actually be trees splitting. When extreme cold hits fast, the moisture and sap inside a tree can freeze and expand. That rapid expansion can cause the trunk or large limbs to crack suddenly, sometimes loud enough to sound like a gunshot. 📍 Most likely during: • Rapid temperature drops • Subzero air settling in • Calm, bitterly cold nights 🌲 Important to know: • This is uncommon, but very possible in extreme cold • Healthy and weakened trees can both be affected • Large cracks or falling limbs can be dangerous 🚗 Safety tips: • Avoid parking under big trees during deep cold • Be alert when walking outdoors • If you hear loud cracking sounds, it may not be what you think Winter isn’t just cold. Locust in very bad shape and close to the house. Full removal went smooth with some technical moves!

Large rotten oak on a steep hillside. Only safe removal was with a crane. Wasn’t 100% healthy but needed to get done! Saddle up!

Recent storm damage. Lifted off house with my truck winch. Done same day they called. I love creative rigging!

Fun engineering challenge today. About a 60’ large oak lead barely attached to the trunk. Ran 3 lines to shrink the problem and pull it out of other canopy away from over the house.

This was a fun climb out and then got out the big saw expertly ported by this stud - Iowa Performance Saws, LLC.

Jay put one of his IPS ported Holz 372 to work making money today in a big way!! That's a monster tree- IN IOWA!! What?!?! I thought it was only corn here 😂😆🌽🌽

Oak trim season is here! Found this major canopy crack during a routine trim. Saved the homeowner the hassle and cost of this failing onto their house. Last pic was a major white pine failing under snow load last year. Always easier to mitigate the danger than deal with it in the middle of a storm! Message me to discuss any of your tree needs!
