Digger Review: Tom Cruise Can't Save Iñárritu's Climate Satire 10/04/2026

Tom Cruise acts with abandon in Digger, but our critic André Hereford finds the film's ambition outpaces its storytelling. "It's not the movie's message that falls apart, just the plot." ★★☆☆☆

Digger Review: Tom Cruise Can't Save Iñárritu's Climate Satire An ambitious blend of doomsday dread, political satire, and absurdist comedy becomes a frustrating intellectual exercise.

The U.S. Department of Education has unveiled a final rule that rescinds protections for LGBTQ college students against s*xual assault and discrimination that were made possible due to an expanded interpretation of Title IX, the federal law prohibiting discrimination on the basis of s*x in educational settings.

The rule, published on September 29, stops short of explicitly defining “s*x,” as it appears in the text of Title IX, as biological s*x, as reported by Politico. However, the Trump administration claimed, in a fact sheet, that the rule does not reflect any new policy decisions.

Rather, the final rule erases the Biden administration’s interpretation of the statute — which extended Title IX’s protections to pregnant students and students who are parents, in addition to LGBTQ individuals — and restores a rule adopted in 2020 by the first Trump administration, which the current administration has been enforcing following court decisions that blocked the Biden-era rule from taking effect.

Fievel Crane, the transgender host of The Morning Mixtape on Charlottesville radio station 106.1 FM The Corner, quit on air earlier this month, saying their employer had failed to support them and had censored what they could say on the show.

The radio host says the company barred them from discussing political issues on air and monitored their personal social media accounts.

A video of Crane’s on-air resignation was posted to Instagram on September 4.

HV Entertainment, the LGBTQ hospitality group behind several nationwide nightlife venues, has partnered with longtime D.C. bar operator Dave Perruzza to acquire a minority stake in Pitchers, the LGBTQ sports bar in Adams Morgan, and its adjoining le***an bar, A League of Her Own.

The partnership brings both bars into the HV Entertainment family — marking the company’s entry into the D.C. market — while keeping Perruzza involved through the transition. Under the deal, HV Entertainment acquires 49% of Pitchers and ALOHO, while Perruzza retains 51%. HV Entertainment has an option to buy his remaining stake.

The complex at 2317 18th St. NW opened in 2018 and has hosted drag shows, trivia nights, and sports league-affiliated events. It has also served as a gathering spot on game days.
