May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and we want to recognize the incredible organizations advancing this work every single day. 💚
At Thread Strategies, we’re proud to partner with nonprofits and organizations championing mental wellness—from direct service providers caring for individuals and families to advocacy organizations breaking down stigma and expanding access to care.
This work is not easy. It is relentless, essential, and deeply human. This month (and every month), we celebrate your impact and are honored to support your mission.
To our partners in the mental health space: thank you for showing up for your communities with such dedication and heart. You make the world better through the work you do.
AI is only as strategic as the intention behind it. 🎯
At , Thread Founder & CEO Loree Lipstein and Principal Sara LaCava Lieberman took the stage to present "AI with Intention" — a framework to help nonprofits turn trends into sustainable impact.
With so many exciting new AI tools emerging in the nonprofit tech space (👀 Bloomerang), the timing couldn't have been better. Because thoughtful AI adoption isn't just about what the technology can do, it's about what YOU want it to do for your mission. Loree and Sara reflect further, stating, "We’ve learned about a lot of exciting new AI tools within Bloomerang at GiveCon, so it felt very timely to be able to talk about how to create an AI use case that moves organizations from an ad hoc approach to AI to a strategic one. Knowing the right questions to ask, having clarity on the problem you’re working to solve, and keeping our humanity at the center, help ensure we can adopt AI thoughtfully."
📽️ Catch a sneak peek of their presentation in the video below.
Thread Strategies and our partner TBRS Community received the Dynamic Duo Givie Award from Bloomerang at this year's GiveCon. The Dynamic Duo Award highlights an organization's campaign or event that has creatively engaged a strategic partner to execute their initiative, demonstrating remarkable collaboration.
In this case, Tatton Brown Rahman Syndrome Community (TBRS Community) and Thread partnered together on the 2025 end-of-year campaign. This campaign was focused on raising money for TBRS Community's pilot center of excellence, which is a meaningful milestone for this rare disease organization. The campaign raised 108% of its goal, saw an 82% increase in revenue over 2024, and saw a 113% increase in the number of first-time donors.
Roisin Debonis, Development and Communications Manager for TBRS Community, and Loree Lipstein, Founder and CEO of Thread, received the award on Sunday night at GiveCon in St. Louis, MO.

Is AI actually useful for grant writing, or just hype?
We asked Kathy Crutcher, Founder and Executive Director of Shout Mouse Press, to share what she's learned from using AI tools on her small nonprofit team, and her take is refreshingly honest.
The biggest win? Adapting language to fit ever-changing word and character limits. The biggest caution? AI struggles with nuanced program data, and a human who knows your programs, funders, and voice always needs to lead the charge.
As Kathy put it, think of AI as a drafting assistant, not a final author.

Are your grant proposals focused on the right things? 🔍
Thread Strategies Principal Liz Siddle breaks down one of the most common mistakes in grant writing: spending too much time making the case for your cause and not enough time showing how your work fits within a foundation's strategy.

Big news for nonprofits in the DMV: a new universal charitable tax deduction means your donors don't have to itemize to get a tax benefit for giving. Spur Local is channeling that momentum into the Everyday Giving Pledge, which is a simple commitment to give more than last year, with at least half staying local.
At Thread Strategies, we believe this kind of broad-based community giving is exactly what sustains the organizations doing the most important work. Share this with your donors, your board, and your network.
