“My last two degrees are the ones which meant the most to me because they were motivated not by a means to escape my circumstances, but a refusal to allow my need to escape to keep me from pursuing my passions in the name of survival.”

Now introducing: Dr. Janae Newsom! This spring, PeerForward Alumni Janae Newsom earned her Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership for Social Justice from California State University, East Bay. She was able to accomplish this all while juggling parenthood and writing a book. We at PeerForward are inspired by her resilience and so proud to see her reach this milestone! In our latest blog post, she speaks more about her experience pursuing this advanced degree and what it means to her to hold the title of doctor: https://www.peerforward.org/now-introducing-dr-janae-newsom/

In honor of our first Workshop of 2026 being only a few weeks away, we wanted to take a moment to look back at previous summers. PeerForward Workshops are truly one of a kind. We can’t wait to jump back in and start training the next generation of Peer Leaders!

Last Friday, Peer Leaders and a group of their peers from the Academy of Health Sciences had the pleasure of visiting the Deloitte Arlington office for a personal development session!

This session focused on personal branding; helping students better understand how to advocate for themselves, position their strengths, and build confidence in how they present themselves. Following the initial presentation, panelists spoke to the students about their education and career paths. Thank you, Deloitte, for hosting this session for our Peer Leaders and their fellow classmates!

“This education & my journey is not to flaunt, it is to inspire; but only who endures to the end… my endurance.”

PeerForward Alumni Abdul Flythe is on to his next journey! This spring, he graduated from University of Wisconsin–Madison with a Bachelor of Business Administration in management & human resources with a minor in sports communications! Previously, Abdul was one of our Peer Leaders from Friendship Colligate Academy in Washington D.C. before graduating in 2022. We are so proud to see all he has accomplished these last 4 years. Congratulations, Abdul!
