Trap Neuter Return is for outdoor cats getting fixed and returned outside.
Up to 3 cats are accepted per person/colony.
Check in for Flint walk-in TNR is Wednesday between 8:30 am – 10 am (8:30 am preferred). Pick-up next morning at 7:15 am.
Eartips are mandatory for TNR; no exceptions.
Cats in carriers are not accepted for TNR. We loan traps.
One cat per trap. Traps must be covered.
$50 spay/neuter, $20 rabies vaccine, free eartip. Take TNR training and get TNR service for for $25.

What to do with that friendly cat that keeps showing up and doesn’t have a microchip? Rehome them, find a rescue or shelter, adopt them yourself? Leave them outside?

Stop! Maybe kitty already has someone invested in caring for them or trying to find care for them.

Try the paper collar trick. Just what it sounds like. Cut a piece of paper to collar size. Write your phone number and message on the collar. Tape it around the cat’s neck. Your message could be as simple as “Do I need a home?”

It’s a lot easier to find the best solution for a cat when you have the facts.

You may have to try this multiple times since collars come off.

Genesee County Animal Care is looking for volunteers. Step through the door and make an immediate difference in a shelter animal's life.

Somebody recently asked if they should put away their community cat's winter shelter until it starts getting cold again.

If you have the same question - the answer is no!

Why?

Shade: A well-placed shelter offers protection from direct sunlight and a cooler resting spot during the hottest parts of the day.

Temperature moderation: Insulated materials like styrofoam or reflective lining slow heat transfer, keeping the interior cooler than the surrounding air.

Protection and safety: Cats are creatures of habit. It's like taking away their safe zone - mentally and physically. Shelters give cats a secure space away from weather and other animals.

Tip: Besides shade, keeping hydrated is crucial. Increase their access to water. Try placing water nearby, and add ice cubes to keep it cool longer.
