We are happy to say that Wren has been officially returned to us! She has some medical issues that will need to be addressed, but all-in-all she's a very sweet, happy girl. We look forward to getting her back to VA 💚

Wren was adopted from us in January 2023 by Bob and April Lassor of South Carolina. Unknown to us, a few months later they gave her to their son and daughter-in-law in PA / NJ. This is a violation of our contract, which stipulates that if an adopter cannot keep the dog they adopted from us, THE DOG MUST BE RETURNED TO OUR RESCUE. It cannot be sold, given away, or dumped in a shelter. We very explicitly told Bob this when they had talked about returning Wren shortly after her adoption. They changed their minds and said they were going to keep her. Clearly this is not the case.

Yesterday, Wren (now Lucy) was posted on local rehoming sites. We were never contacted by them. Thankfully Akita rescues talk to eachother, and we were notified of the posts. We comment on the posts in two different rehoming sites, stating that she is ours and must be returned. We texted and emailed the actual adopters. No one is responding.

We do not know if Wren is still with the son's family, or if they have already given her away, as the posts have been removed.

✨️✨️SHE IS BACK!!✨️✨️

Suki came to us on 6.27.26 from a family in Maine, who initially found her stray and pregnant. Suki had her litter, and after all the puppies found their homes, it was Suki's turn. The family was so committed to getting her into rescue, they drove her all the way to us in Virginia!

Suki is too smart for her own good, and an escape artist! On 6.29.26, she created a hole in her foster's fence and took off! She was ultimately missing for 40 days, through southern summer heat advisories and storms. For 30 days, we had zero sightings. We hung a bunch of flyers, reached out to our local Animal control to report her missing, talked to all of our contacts in the surrounding cities' shelters, and even paid for a drone recovery service to see if they could find her overnight with thermal imagining.

No luck.

Finally, someone posted a sighting not far from her foster's home, in an industrial area. We went to look, and continued to look, day after day in that area, but saw no signs of her.

10 days later another sighting in the same area! We rushed over and actually SAW her! She ran from people into a fenced area we couldn't access, but at least we knew she was hanging around in the same area. We set up a feeding station with motion activated trail cameras. She was quick to eat the food left for her. After a couple days a trap with an open door and food inside was added. After letting her get used to that, we armed and baited the trap, and caught her that evening!

After 40 days, she was safely back with her foster.

Suki is good with children and cats, and may do well in a home with the right male dog.

We are beyond thrilled to share that two of our long-time fosters have found their forever homes!! 💚💚💚 🥳 🎉

Half Akita and half Siberian Husky (or a "Huskita"), Apple Jacks was born in our rescue on 1.18.23, along with his other siblings we named the Cereal Killer Crew, in keeping with the theme started with their mom, Cheerio : Frosted Mini Wheat "Frosty", Cinnamon Toast Crunch "Cinnamon", Cocoa Puff "Cocoa", Cap'n Crunch "Cap'n", Lucky Charms "Lucky", Fruit Loops "Fruity", and Apple Jacks "Jack". These pups were born to Akita mom, Cheerio, so we HAD to name them after cereals 😅 We didn't know Cheerio was pregnant when she arrived with us. We took her to the vet for what we *thought* was a UTI but.... surprise! She was pregnant. She was surrendered to the shelter with 3 huskies, including an intact male, so we feel we can safely call these guys Akita/Husky mixes (Huskitas). She whelped 8 puppies (4 girls, and 4 boys), but one of the females (Rice Crispy) was still born.

Nacho, born approx 6.12.18 came to us from the shelter in Currituck, NC in October 2022. He had previously lived with another dog, is super dog social, and did very well on his cat test.

We are aware of this puppy, and would be glad to take her, but we simply do not have the resources to transport her at this time. The shelter is about 4 hours away from us 🥺🫶

Update: owner found

This young female dog was found on Greyson St in Martinsville wearing a green collar but no tags. If you have any idea who she belongs to, please contact us!

We want to reiterate this dog is not available for adoption. She will have to serve her legal stray hold. If not reclaimed we have placement in line for her already as she is special needs with not being able to hear. We will update this post if she is reclaimed.
