When it’s one of your vendor friend’s turn to get married 🤩 congratulations to Callie and Seth on their gorgeous union today!

Callie .co has been with BWD for a while now, and we’ve worked on numerous projects together; and it’s been fun to see her plan her own wedding this time around.

Both the white lambeth piped cake and the main cake are sugar-free, a custom request put in for enjoyment of the couple.

I cannot express how happy I am for these two, and when it’s someone you know, the wedding festivities hit differently. That’s why it matters to me to make connections with each client that comes my way!

🤍

We came back from our trip to the island of Oahu, and noticed that Utah was full-on spring mode, and it was just gorgeous! The travel from island to mountain within a matter of hours is something to marvel; so grateful for modern locomotives!

Had to share with you a full-body feature of this beautiful cake display I made just prior to departing.

It’s the calm before the storm for me, and as we settle down and get back to our daily routines I’m reminded to make the most of each moment. Our time in Hawaii reflected that—a moment to slow down, breathe, and appreciate your space and where you are right now.

Which is why I love this cake for the poetry it speaks. You notice on the left side branches, we have brown, aged leaves—constantly reaching further and further back.

These leaves, to me, represent the PAST.

And on the right, we have newer, fresher leaves. It’s branches outstretched and reaching forward and onward. These leaves represent the FUTURE.

And the cake sits right in between in this timeline of branches: with an early springtime scene of birds and flowers blooming, inviting you to pause and take in the scene.

This represents the PRESENT. It is now. As we are all in together.

May you and I, as the viewer of this art piece, appreciate the work we’re all putting in right now in the present moment, because it is certainly a gift and one to be cherished.

Time is so fleeting, best we enjoy it while we can; through the dark and light 🙂

My favorite season is definitely spring. Autumn comes a close second. But honestly, I love them all, each brings something to look forward to in the year.

Looking around for inspiration for this display cake, all I needed to do was look outside, and ask myself what I saw in the season of spring. I noticed that not everything was in full bloom, yet. Tree branches still had red, rusty leaves from fall/winter that is barely hanging onto dear life. (Notice those red autumn leaves on the cake!) And at the same time, you have new and fresh blooms emerging.

For many of us, fall/winter symbolizes hardship, cold, hibernation, sleep, rest, and in cases, death (of course, fun and Christmas wonder, too!); whereas stepping into the summer is about being alive, warm, abundance, energetic, fertility, and life. What I really really love about spring is her ability to create space for both. Space for bot the hardship AND joy. Space for life AND death. For warmth AND cold. Beauty AND decay. I love spring for this—its capacity to embrace and make space for all things is enthralling. It’s about acceptance—the transitioning and metamorphosis between the two—and she does it ever so gracefully.

Have a gorgeous spring day to all 🤍

All sugar flowers are handmade and 100% edible, and one month in the making!

It’s wedding day for Noelini and Wasi Congratulations, you two!!

This sweet girl knew she wanted something more on the elegant, simple, and modernist side. When we talked a little bit about their relationship, the thing that struck me was when she said it was so easy to love her now husband. Just fleeting. Instant. We knew we needed to portray that somehow. Light, airy, carefree.

I sure hope they enjoy their forever! This was one of my biggest commissions yet, in terms of servings. My sheet cakes are pretty much the same size as you would get it from the main cake, those lovely 4-layered cake with gorgeous buttercream and fillings, au’riiiiiigh 🤙🏼

I got scolded or reprimanded a lot by my art teachers for the most minute and tiniest issues that they’ve found with on my artwork. And now looking back, they are soooo right to.

I grew up in Hong Kong and you know our teachers can be so strict and stern (a kind of tough love). I got reprimanded for not painting my blank canvas with white paint—like what, it’s already white..?

Also got scolded for my pencil and draft marks still showing.

For my colors looking muddy because I mixed in with black—yeah they noticed that!

Even when my spacing and composition is a bit off—they will notice and talk to me about it.

For skipping the most mundane and unimportant steps—which, looking back now, the most mundane and unimportant steps turned out to be so crucial after all.

Painting my white blank canvas with more white paint? Yes. Actually so important to do that, when my teacher held up my canvas against the light, it was sooo see-through. She was right—it needed more paint, there was no color, even if it was white. It was needed to build up additional colors. I was sooo humbled.

From then on, I definitely learned not to skip on quality work, because it will show even in the smallest of details. Because there will always be someone who notice it.

So even those seemingly unimportant and mundane things? You bet it will get done. I will trim those cake edges. Make sure to dowel and level those cakes for support. Even handmade my own vanilla extract. Down to making sure I have your wedding timelines right. The smallest details count.

My thoughts for the day!
Wedding season for me is starting this week and you bet I’m doubling down on emails and details on your wedding cake. My clients only deserve the best attention to detail!

UTAH PEEPS—I’m doing a SALE!

This gorgeous thing of beauty.

March is almost done, and it’s still snowing in Utah! It’s funny that I’m in the industry of celebration and fun, but I don’t celebrate my own birthday anymore—even though my family still does something for me. To lift spirits up, I’m doing a belated birthday sale next week (my birthday was on the 16th), as a way to give back instead of just receiving—no I will not earn any profit from this, but just to pay off the labor and materials made for this sale.

Watch this space!

POV: when you have, not one, but TWO wedding cakes! Yes, please!

And enjoy my selfie with the cakes 😜 hope it wasn’t too traumatizing.

The most thoughtful and fun-loving bride decided to give her now-husband a special wedding surprise. A golf bag cake, with their initials and “Halford” on the side. It is such a thoughtful and meaningful gift that I’m all down for!

Everything about their process was all about love and family, and that was their focus on, and it showed yesterday at their wedding! Everything was so thoughtfully curated with down to customized newspapers, a dessert bar, and they even turned the whole bottom@floor of their venue into a fun golf area!! So fun! What an honor to be part of their special day!

Enjoy forever, you two!! Be sure to check out these vendors, and my stories behind-the-scenes to get in touch with your vendors if you, or someone you know, is planning an event!
