Are you diligent about flossing? Did you know that after a year of daily use, the length of the amount of dental floss used is roughly enough to measure the entire perimeter of a baseball diamond? That’s a lot of floss—and a lot of oral problems prevented!
A nagging toothache on its own is bad enough; however, combine it with cold air, and you’re likely to experience more intense pain. If tooth sensitivity is a problem, consider buying toothpaste that is specifically designed to minimize sensitivity. Also, shy away from cold foods and beverages as well as those that are highly acidic, as they can irritate the outer layers of your teeth and cause additional discomfort.
"All the statistics in the world can’t measure the warmth of a smile.” – Chris Hart
According to a study published in the American Journal of Public Health, an estimated 51 million hours of school are missed by children who need to see a dentist for a specific oral health problem. This is why prevention is essential, as it can reduce the amount of time spent away from the classroom, allowing for greater academic success.
Happy New Year! We hope that 2024 is great for you and your loved ones! 🎉

Although babies are born without any teeth, this doesn’t mean they aren’t there! Just six weeks after conception, a baby’s teeth begin to form but remain beneath the gumline until it is time for them to erupt, which is usually between six months of age and one year.
Wishing you a very happy holiday season! 🎄 ☃️
When it comes to making a good first impression, nearly three in five adults in America would prefer to have a healthier, more attractive-looking smile than clearer skin. This is evident by the fact that most people admit the first thing they notice about others is their smile. That said, smile as often as you can!
The holidays are a time of eating good food, but if you’re not careful, you might bite down on something that causes a crack in your tooth. Or, it might be that you’re overly excited about a present and instead of using scissors to open it, you use your teeth. These can spell disaster for your smile, resulting in more time spent with your emergency dentist instead of family and friends. Commit to giving up bad habits that can damage your smile!
"The worth of a well-maintained smile is immeasurable." ~Author Unknown 😁
It is believed that more soldiers who fought during the American Revolution died from dental disease than from battle-inflicted injuries. As a result, President George Washington required that each soldier receive a toothbrush so that they could clean their teeth daily!
The holidays can often be a busy time, leaving you to feel as if you have no availability until after the new year. If you want to ensure that your smile remains healthy, schedule an appointment to see your dentist immediately following the holidays. A general checkup and cleaning can help to address any minor or major issues before they worsen, allowing you to focus on the coming year with a positive attitude and a beautiful smile!
We hope that you and your family have a fantastic Friday and a wonderful weekend!
Historians have found that early civilizations used different types of brushing mechanisms to clean teeth such as frayed bark, feathers, and even porcupine quills! In fact, the first toothbrush was not developed until the late 1400s by the Chinese.
If you’re planning to travel this holiday season, make sure that you are equipped with all the travel necessities to keep your pearly whites shining bright. You don’t want to be embarrassed by your annual family photos, so double-check that your toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, and mouthwash are packed and ready to go. You might also consider packing an emergency dental kit that includes gauze, a small container, pain relievers, an ice pack, and even dental wax should an injury occur while you’re away.
"Wrinkles should merely indicate where smiles have been." ~Mark Twain
No two sets of teeth are exactly the same. In fact, this is why forensic crime scene investigators often use teeth to identify a victim! Using dental records and impressions, these professionals can more easily solve crimes with absolute certainty.
Who doesn’t enjoy a warm mug of hot chocolate throughout the holidays? Although it might taste delicious while cozied up underneath a blanket, the sugary contents of chocolate and marshmallows will only cause problems for your smile. Instead, reach for the sugar-free variety, and opt for milk so that your teeth benefit from the calcium!
"A smile is the chosen vehicle of all ambiguities." ~Herman Melville
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your loved ones! 🦃 🍁
If you’re a history buff, you’ll find that those who lived during medieval times used odd methods to treat toothaches and loose teeth. Boiling earthworms in oil and placing them within the ear was the primary method of curing a toothache, and tying a frog to a person’s jaw helped with loose teeth.
With colder temperatures comes the formation of cold sores. These common growths can cause pain and embarrassment, which is why you’ll want to make sure that you wash your hands frequently and thoroughly throughout the winter months. This prevents germs from infecting your mouth and keeps cold sores and the flu at bay.
"A smile is a curve that sets everything straight." -Phyllis Diller
People who enjoy drinking soda will want to cut back on their consumption, especially after learning that each one contains 10-12 teaspoons of sugar. This is more than double, even triple, the recommended daily intake of 4 teaspoons.
Wearing a heavy coat is helpful during the cold winter months, but you should also remember to bundle up with heavy scarves around your neck and face. The chilly winds can negatively affect your gums, jawbone, and teeth because of the clenching you might experience when faced with cold temperatures.
Have a Wonderful Weekend!
According to the American Dental Association, only 20% of adults admit that they only floss when they feel that there might be something stuck in their teeth. This unfortunately leads to gum disease, which can irrigate soft oral tissues and lead to bone and tooth loss if left untreated.
If you find that you’re licking your lips often, it might be because they’re chapped from the cold, wintery air. To keep them from becoming cracked and sore, make sure to apply lip balm frequently. Even when the temperatures are colder, the sun can still wreak havoc on these soft tissues, so using a product that contains sunscreen is also helpful.
Have a Fantastic Friday!
