CoreScanX
CoreScanX provides precision concrete scanning, imaging, and coring services to help construction and engineering teams work safely and efficiently.
GPR scanning before a radon mitigation installation.
During this project, our team used 2D GPR scanning to identify subsurface responses and field-mark the areas of interest. We then used 3D GPR scanning to double-check the markings and further evaluate what was within the concrete before the planned pe*******on was made.
A quick look at GPR scanning in action with the GSSI Flex NX.
Know what’s inside before you drill.
Ever wondered what rebar looks like on a GPR scanner?
Here’s a quick look at GPR scanning in real time, from scanning the concrete surface to seeing the subsurface responses on the screen.
These readings help our team identify and locate reinforcing steel within the concrete before drilling, coring, or cutting.

Before making a pe*******on through concrete, know what’s below the surface.
Our team recently performed GPR concrete scanning in Largo, FL to help locate embedded elements before an approximately 1-inch core pe*******on was made through a second-floor concrete slab.
Using GPR, we scanned the proposed area, identified apparent subsurface features, and field-marked their locations to help the project team plan the pe*******on.
Even a relatively small core can encounter embedded reinforcement or other elements within the slab.
Scan first. Know what’s below before you core.

Post-tensioned concrete can become complicated quickly when work encounters a tendon.
This video from PGRestoration provides a good look at the type of repair work that can be involved when post-tension systems are encountered during construction or restoration.
For contractors planning to drill, core, anchor, or otherwise modify a PT slab, knowing where the tendons are located before work begins can help the team plan around the existing system.
That’s where GPR concrete scanning can help.
At CoreScanX, we use GPR to identify and field-mark apparent post-tension cable locations and other embedded elements before concrete is modified.

Concrete scanning before hurricane shutter installation.
Our team was back in Palmetto today to perform GPR concrete scanning at a residential balcony soffit prior to the installation of hurricane shutters.
The scan was performed to identify post-tension cables and reinforcing steel before drilling. In the scanned area, reinforcing steel was identified and field-marked for reference.
Knowing what’s inside the concrete before drilling can help the installation team work around existing reinforcement and avoid unnecessary damage.
Scan first. Know what’s below before you drill.
Post-tension cables can be closer to the surface than you might expect.
During a recent GPR scan, our team identified post-tension cable responses at approximately ½ inch below the concrete surface.
This is a good example of why knowing what’s inside a slab matters before drilling, coring, cutting, or anchoring.
Even a relatively shallow pe*******on into concrete can encounter embedded components that aren't visible from the surface. GPR scanning helps identify and map these features before work begins.

CoreScanX recently performed GPR scanning to identify and field-mark embedded reinforcing steel within a designated tie beam area prior to upcoming work.
The scan identified subsurface reinforcing elements, which were marked directly on the surface for reference.
Another look at GPR scanning in the field and how it helps provide a clearer picture of what's inside concrete before work begins.

GPR scanning for a radon mitigation project.
CoreScanX recently performed GPR scanning on a concrete wall separating a lanai enclosure from the interior living space.
The goal was to identify reinforcing steel and other embedded elements before any cutting or drilling for a wall-mounted radon mitigation unit.
The scan identified multiple vertical metallic targets consistent with reinforcing steel within the CMU wall, along with additional horizontal targets. The identified areas were field-marked to provide a clear reference before installation.
Another example of how GPR scanning can help identify what's inside a structure before work begins.

GPR scanning in preparation for a C-channel ceiling system installation.
CoreScanX recently performed approximately 1,200 SF of overhead GPR concrete scanning to identify and field-mark embedded reinforcing steel prior to fastening.
A designated floor area was also scanned for subsurface embedded elements.
The identified features were marked directly on the concrete surface to provide a clear reference for the installation team.
Scan first. Install with confidence.

For this project, CoreScanX performed Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) scanning ahead of concrete cutting for electrical wiring.
The scan identified post-tensioning cables at shallow depth within one of the originally proposed trench locations. Based on the scan findings, that location was not cut, and the work was adjusted to avoid the identified cables.
Additional narrow trenches were then cut in the designated areas to accommodate the electrical wiring.
Scan first. Cut with confidence.
