WHERE'S THE FIRE? πŸ”₯ Venice Fire Rescue is assisting the Sarasota County Fire Department and other area fire agencies with a brush fire in the Stoneybrook community near River and Center roads. As a precaution, homes in the Granite Woods Loop area were evacuated. πŸ‘€ Although the blaze is not in Venice City limits, residents will smell smoke and see ash from this fire southeast of us due to a low-pressure weather system.

There’s nothing like outdoor grilling, but grills placed too close to structures, trees, or other combustible materials can quickly become a fire hazard. Hot surfaces, open flames, and grease buildup can also cause serious burn injuries. With a few simple precautions, you can help keep your Memorial Day weekend safe.

🚫 Please note: The recreational burn ban issued April 19, 2026 remains in effect and prohibits open cooking pits and similar open burning activities.

πŸ”₯ Grilling Safety Tips:
β€’ Check propane tanks and connections for leaks before use
β€’ Clean grease and fat buildup from grills and drip trays
β€’ Keep grills away from homes, railings, trees, and overhangs
β€’ Always open the gas grill lid before lighting
β€’ Keep children and pets at least 3 feet from the grill area
β€’ Only use approved charcoal starter fluid β€” never add flammable liquids to an active fire
β€’ Allow coals to cool completely before disposal in a metal container
β€’ Never leave a grill unattended while in use
