Texas is getting another state park — and this one is being designed to stay a little wilder.

Bear Creek State Park, near Concan in the Hill Country, is planned as a more rugged, nature-focused escape with about 1,700 acres of Texas landscape. Instead of heavy development, the park is expected to emphasize primitive camping, hiking, limited vehicle access, and preserving the natural character of the land.

It’s being developed as a quieter alternative to some of the more heavily visited Hill Country parks, giving Texans another place to unplug, explore, and enjoy the outdoors without quite as many modern conveniences.

The park is currently expected to open in 2029.
