THE FUTURE OF LOCAL FOOD IS UNDER ATTACK A dangerous statewide policy from Oregon’s Department of Land Conservation & Development (DLCD) is moving forward-and if passed in late 2025, it could wipe out thousands of small family farms.
This affects everyone because Oregon’s farms feed communities across the U.S.
A What’s at stake:
• X U-pick farms
• X Apple stands & roadside produce
• X School field trips, goat visits, hayrides
• X Farm dinners, harvest festivals, and local food events
In July 2025, the owners of Topaz Farm (Sauvie
Island) sounded the alarm: if this proposal passes, the very activities that help keep farms afloat will be regulated out of existence.
I What’s really at risk:
• ~4,000 Oregon farms involved in agritourism
• $985 million/year in food and event income
• Over 11,000 jobs
• National food distribution and community nourishment
Meanwhile, large wineries are exempt.
They can continue hosting events and selling food-while family farms are burdened with permits, caps, and restrictions.

This affects everyone, not just Oregon.
Oregon’s harvest stocks farmers markets, grocery stores, and restaurants across the country.
When small farms go down, your food access goes with them.
