After all the skateboarding shots, I'm finally back to being able to go through more of my Monahans State park trip shots. I had a wonderful time there.

I’ve been the primary care giver for my elderly mom who is not doing well and is about to turn 95. Since we have a “Blue Moon” tonight, I decided to take her for a drive so we could see it rise.

The occurrence this evening is the second full moon in May and usually, each month has only one full moon. About every 2.7 years, we get two full moons in one month and this was it. Thus, it happens occasionally and this relates to the phrase “… once in a blue moon…” i.e. something that does not happen often.

The original meaning comes from astronomical conditions where the moon actually looks blue but, these are very rare and most of us have never and will never see one. The two full moons in a single month is the accepted meaning of it today.

There was a lot of hazy cloud but, thankfully it emerged from behind them and we saw it, the first time for her at right close to 95, and for me, almost 69, to see the literal “blue moon” and to understand where the phrase, that we’ve used for decades, came from.

The moon of course was not blue and was like it is in this photo. I’m glad we both got to see it together.

Here are some of the photos I took at the Faulkner Skatepark event today. More will be coming as I have time to process them. I range of boarder competed, from beginners to experts. It was HOT out there but fun.
