5W Pest Control and Home Services

East Texas, we’ll gladly take the rain. 🌧️🙏

After a long stretch of dry weather, this radar is a welcome sight.

If some of this rain makes it our way, though, don’t be surprised if you notice a change in pest activity afterward.

During drought conditions, insects often move closer to homes and businesses looking for moisture. Then when heavier rain finally arrives, it can displace pests from soil, mulch, drains, and other outdoor hiding places.

After the rain, you may notice more:
- Ant activity around foundations and sidewalks
- Roaches moving out of damp or flooded hiding spots
- Insects showing up around garages and entryways
- Standing water that can become mosquito habitat

And if you’ve recently had pest control done, a normal rain doesn’t automatically mean the treatment is gone. Once an exterior product has had the proper time to dry, many treatments are designed to remain effective—but timing and the specific product matter.

For now, we’re just thankful for the possibility of some much-needed rain. 🌧️

P.S. If the rain brings a few unwanted visitors with it, 5W Pest Control is here to help.

You may not be able to do much about the number on the sign…

But the crowd underneath it? That’s another story. 😅

If you’ve noticed gas stations, convenience stores, and other brightly lit businesses covered in crickets lately, there’s a reason.

This time of year, field crickets can show up in large numbers—and bright exterior lights can draw them right toward buildings after dark.

Once they gather around the building, they tend to pile up near doors, sidewalks, walls, and other entry points.

A few simple things can help:
• Turn off unnecessary exterior lights when possible
• Check weather stripping and gaps around doors
• Seal cracks and openings around the building
• Keep cricket buildup cleaned away from entrances

So yes, everyone may be watching the gas prices.

We’re watching the cricket traffic. 👀🦗

P.S. If your home or business is starting to look like cricket headquarters, 5W Pest Control can help.

East Texans when the first cool front is in the forecast:

“FALL IS FINALLY HERE!” 🍂🙌

The cool front:

95° → 85° 😎

Hey, we’ll take what we can get.

And while 85 degrees may not exactly be sweater weather, those first changes in temperature are a reminder that another season is right around the corner.

As we move toward fall, pest activity changes too. Insects start finding protected places around homes, and before long, rodents will be looking for ways into attics, garages and other sheltered spaces.

That makes now a great time to look around your home for:

🐭 Gaps around the roofline and soffits
🪳 Cracks and openings around doors and windows
🕷️ Pest activity in garages, porches and storage areas
🐜 Areas where insects are already finding their way inside

Enjoy that first taste of cooler weather.

And let 5W worry about anything else trying to enjoy your home with you. 😎

Some projects make you feel 10 years old again.

We recently finished this treehouse, and it’s hard to look at it without remembering the important stuff from childhood:

Climbing as high as you could.
Making up rules to a game nobody else understood.
Hanging out with your best friend and learning the fine art of negotiation.
Exploring the woods to find your “secret headquarters.”
With only one rule: “Be home before dark!”

Now there’s a brand-new generation ready to make those memories.

A little lumber.
A big oak tree.
And a whole lot of imagination.

Sometimes the best home projects aren’t really about the house at all. 🌳🪵

They’re about making home a little more fun.

P.S. Grown-ups are allowed in the treehouse too. We checked. 😎

Beautiful homes aren’t immune to termite damage. 🏡

In this Tyler home, termite damage extended through the wall and all the way up into the structural support header above the windows.

From the outside, you may never guess what’s happening behind the walls. Once everything was opened up, you could see just how much damage had been hiding underneath the finished surfaces. 🪵

And this is the part homeowners sometimes don’t realize:

Killing the termites is only half the job. 🐜

Termite treatment stops the active problem, but it doesn’t repair the wood they’ve already damaged.

For this project, we treated the termite issue, removed the damaged material, replaced the affected structural framing and header, then repaired and finished everything back out so the room could look like a home again - not a construction site. 🔨

That’s the goal:
✅ Get rid of the termites.
✅ Fix what they damaged.
✅ Get your home back to normal.

Better yet, use our termite prevention program so you can have confidence your home is protected before this kind of damage ever happens. 🛡️

Because the best termite repair is the one you never have to make.

P.S. Whether you need termite treatment, damage repair, or prevention before there’s a problem, 5W can help with all three. 📞903-312-6374

🐝 That little wasp nest you ignored in May?

It may not be so little anymore.

By late summer, wasp colonies can be much larger and a lot more active than they were earlier in the season. That can make nests around your home a bigger problem, especially near:

• Porch ceilings and eaves
• Sheds and garages
• Playsets and outdoor furniture
• Fence posts and gates
• Other protected spots around the house

And this is usually not the best time to grab a can of spray and start swinging. 😬

If wasps have claimed part of your home or yard, give 5W Pest Control a call at 903-312-6374.

We’ll handle the wasps. You keep your distance.
