Turlock High HOSA

What an incredible week of biotechnology professional development with high school science teachers from across Stanislaus County!

Through BABEC (Bay Area Bioscience Education Community) and BEAM Circular Bioeconomy, hosted at CSU Stanislaus, I had the opportunity to explore biotechnology careers, the circular bioeconomy, and hands-on laboratory skills that bring science to life for students.

We completed biotechnology labs including micropipetting, fermentation and yogurt production, PCR, gel electrophoresis, genomics, antibiotic testing, alginate pearl production, and batch record documentation. Even more exciting, teachers received biotechnology equipment and lab materials to take back to our classrooms, helping make these experiences accessible for students.

One highlight was a private tour of Divert in Turlock, where we learned how food waste is transformed into renewable natural gas and fertilizer through innovative biotechnology processes.

I am energized to integrate biotechnology, clinical laboratory skills, and career exploration opportunities into my classes, helping students discover the many pathways available in science, healthcare, and biotechnology.

Celebrating our THS HOSA graduates, we recognized over 🎗️50 HOSA, Sports Medicine, and Sports Medicine II students with CTE Healthcare Pathway Completion cords and HOSA Honor cords. 🩺🎗️
🎖️Celebrated 32 graduates at the TUSD EMT and CNA Pinning Ceremony as they completed their Emergency Medical Technician and Certified Nursing Assistant programs at First Lady Permanente, preparing them for entry-level careers in healthcare.

To top off the week, eight of our Sports Medicine students volunteered at Turlock High Sports Physicals, helping serve more than 400 student-athletes as they prepare for the upcoming school year.

So proud of these students for their dedication, service, and commitment to healthcare. The future of healthcare is bright! 🩺❤️
