True love 💘

Every day I scroll through the news to see stories of people being harassed, assaulted, kidnapped, and disappeared by secret police conducting warrantless searches and arrests. People are being randomly stopped and told to produce proof of citizenship. Nearly all are targeted for being the wrong color/race/ethnicity. This is happening in workplaces, in farmers' markets, in elementary schools, in residential neighborhoods.

They tried (and fortunately failed) to go to a Dodgers game. If I asked you to name a country where armed, masked, paramilitary police were checking people's citizenship papers at a sporting event, would your first guess be America? They operate with no oversight or accountability at all

Are we safe yet?

Diversity makes us better humans. It cultivates empathy and understanding. Art, especially, demands it. Without diversity, art can't challenge. It can't provoke. It can't disrupt

It is not a coincidence that the same people behind this assault on our most basic human and civil rights are also co-opting the Kennedy Center and want to eliminate the National Endowment for the Arts

Fascism demands submission. Art is rebellion.

Sometimes I like to revisit past photoshoots to see if there were any gems I overlooked. I often use this as an opportunity to experiment with different editing techniques.

Some are practical, like using detail enhancement to draw the viewer's eyes and encourage them to linger just a moment longer in their scrolling; others are just for fun, like simulating sunrays and studio light to lean into a fantasy look.

This is what I deal with as a photographer. Just the other day, I got a notification saying my page was in good health and approved for recommendation. It literally changes back and forth overnight without me doing anything at all. I am not allowed to appeal this restriction, which limits my account's already pitiful reach.

That's why it really is a big deal when you share my work. Whether you've done a photoshoot with me in the past and you share your photos among friends, or you simply reshare my posts, the awareness you bring to my work is the best weapon I have against this kind of arbitrary censorship.
