Leather is a pretty material, but it tends to have problems from time to time, such as cracking/peeling or annoying stains. Proper care is highly recommended to sustain a timeless, like-new look for your leather bags. Let's find out some ways that you can do right now!
𝟏. 𝐃𝐚𝐲-𝐭𝐨-𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞
◾ To avoid stretching, try not to overfill your handbags with oversized and heavy items.
◾ Take the time to wipe away dust and spots with a soft cloth or brush once every month or depending on your frequency of use. You can rub with a leather conditioner, which helps to stop your bag from cracking and drying.
◾ Leather is not waterproof and will absorb moisture like rain or humidity, which causes the leather to mildew or mold. Cover your leather bags properly when the weather is wet, or use a leather spray protectant.
◾ If the bag has water or rain on it, don’t try to dry it with heat since heat damages leather and can cause it to crack and fade. Instead, wipe the majority of it off with a clean cloth and let the rest air dry.
𝟐. 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬
◾ Try to clean up any stains as soon as they appear before they have a chance to dry into your leather bag.
◾ For grease stains, you can use cornstarch. Let the cornstarch sit on your bag for at least 8 hours, then gently wipe it away with a clean, dry cloth.
◾ For ink stains, try using nail polish remover. Dip a cotton swab into a bottle of nail polish remover. Gently wipe the cotton swab over the ink-stained area. Repeat this until the cotton swab picks up all of the ink.
𝟑. 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞
◾ Stuff your bag with a T-shirt or bubble wraps to maintain its shape. Don't use newspapers since the ink could transfer onto the lining and stain the bag.
◾ Keep your leather bag in its dust bag to avoid scratches (the dust bag may be included with your purchase. You can use a cotton pillowcase instead).
◾ Place silica packets with your bag to remove moisture.
◾ Air your bag out for about an hour every 2 weeks to avoid mold and mildew.
◾ Store leather away from direct sunlight as this can cause fading.
Leather is a tough material that can last for a long time. If you treat your bag kindly, it will last a lot longer!
