A friendly place for soap makers, natural plant botanical colors, clays, and crazy soapy fun!

Green Month starts tomorrow! 🌿We're taking the yellow and blue soaps we've already created and blending those colors to explore a whole new range of natural greens.

The majority of our greens this month will come from blending yellows and blues, but we'll also be working with one botanical that can create a lasting green all on its own: alfalfa.

It's also a great time to remind you that freshness matters! Old botanicals will not produce the same colors are fresh high quality ones. So, go out and get some fresh alfalfa and I'll see you in class!

Live classes start tomorrow, and as always, members will have full access to the replays.
🥰💚Happy soaping.

Probably the most common question soapers ask when modifying a formulation is “what oil can I replace ABC oil with?” The short answer is, it depends on why you’re trying to swap the oils. Is it to lower cost, or replace an oil that’s hard to obtain? Maybe you want to replace the oil in order to change the characteristics of the soap… In this course we’re going to discus swapping oils for other similar oils, which allows you to replace an expensive oil with a lower cost alternative, while still achieving a similar product in the end.

Lessons include a video excerpt from a Members Only Zoom Session where we discussed alternatives for olive oil which has skyrocket in prices since COVID, along with SAP values, fatty acid profiles, cost comparison, and an overview of how to test the new oil(s) in your formulations.

From soft blue to deep indigo 💙

In this project, I used fermented Indigofera tinctoria to create a smooth blue-to-bluer ombre soap, gradually deepening the color one layer at a time. It's a simple technique, but the finished bars showcase an incredible range of natural blues.

One of my favorite parts? Watching the indigo bloom as the soap cures and the colors continue to develop.
