Since then, Surgical technologists serve as an integral part of the surgical team providing surgical care to patients. Surgical technologists work under the supervision of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of surgical procedures.

The first Doctors' Day observance was held on March 30,1933. This day of recognition occurred on the anniversary of the first administration of anesthesia in 1842.
