Dear Pastor Kevin and Hope UMC,

I wanted to let you all know of my love and appreciation for this church family. I have always been spiritual and have walked with God. Sometimes He carried me and sometimes I was so far away He was like a distant star in the sky, but He was always there.

I came to Hope for many reasons. Some I know and some God later showed me.

I came because - One of my closest friends told me to come.

I came because - The church I was in was saying Jesus loved all but made comments on transgender kids

I came because - The pastor of that church discounted me when I told him there was a strong clinical possibility, I had breast cancer. He responded with, “I’m going to pray it’s not”, very flippantly and then walked away from me to do something else.

I came because - No one at that church supported me or my children like I asked when they found out that I did have breast cancer

I came because - My son asked me why we attended a church that didn’t seem to do what Jesus said we all should do.

I came because - I knew I needed to be somewhere else for my soul to be fed by God.

I came because - My spouse frequently mocked my faith, more so when I was going through treatment for Stage 3 breast cancer at 45 years old.

I could go on and on about why I came. Hindsight really is 20/20. Let me tell you why I stayed

I stayed because - I instantly felt the different vibe that is

I stayed because - My son was accepted for who he was

I stayed because - When I showed up in my head scarf, covering my nonexistent hair, and my face mask, I was smiled at and greeted. I was guided to the individual communion cups.

I stayed because - I took a chance at Friendsgiving and sat down at a random table and was accepted by these women as if I had been a lifelong friend.

I stayed because - My son now knows what Jesus is and supposed to be like

I stayed because - My daughter knows that she can come to Hope and be loved simply for being by herself.

I stayed because - I found hope, salvation, love, and support in a women's group that started out in kindergarten chairs in the jungle room.

I stayed because - When I ask for help my pastor answered

I stayed because - Not only did my pastor answer, but my women’s group also answered. Loudly, Proudly, and EVERY time

I stayed because - My son’s best friend’s family are a huge part of this church and now a big part of my children and mine’s life.

I could go on and on, but the simple answer is:
I stayed because I see God working in every aspect of this Church.
I stayed at Hope UMC because I see God’s Hope in every aspect of this church.
