If you happen to have any dog or cat food that your pet decided they’re too picky for or you recently needed to switch up pet food and have leftovers remaining, we also always accept dog and cat food for our pet food pantry which goes to families in need. ❤️🐾 Thank you as always for being part of our mission!

Our wonderful volunteers gave some of our adoptable dogs a little spa day this morning, and LOOK AT THEM. 🥹 They are freshly fluffed, feeling fancy, and hoping today is the day they finally meet their people. ❤️

And for our long-term residents, we’ve got them EXTRA prepared. Many of them have care packages ready to go home with them, including leashes, collars, and toys. Because.. we’re trying to make it as easy as possible for you to say, “Okay, we can take the dog home TODAY.” 😂

Badger is more of an introvert. Small social gatherings of one or two dogs? Sure, occasionally. A giant dog party where everyone is in his business? Absolutely not. He would like to go home now.

Honestly, Badger just wants to sit on the couch, eat snacks, play with his toys, give his people some hugs and watch football. He's basically a 4-year-old man with a mortgage, but without the mortgage.

These pets entered our shelter recently. Let's help any lost pets get back home to their families! 🐾🏡🐶

🐾 If you recognize one of the stray pets posted on our HHHS Lost & Found Pets page or you are missing a pet, please contact our Admissions Department or come check with us in person ASAP (tomorrow we will be open from 1-5pm). ❗️There is NO fee to reclaim your pet during the 3-day stray hold period.❗️

If your pet is missing:
• File a lost report with us as soon as possible
• Check our HHHS Lost & Found Pets page regularly
• Come to the shelter and look in person
• Share your pet's photo with your neighbors and on social media

🏠 Found a pet? You can help get them home, too.
⚠️If a pet is healthy, safe, and not a danger or hazard to the community, they may not need to come to the shelter immediately.

If it is safe to do so:
📸 Take a photo and post them on social media
🏡 Walk toward them and see if they head back toward home
👋 Ask neighbors, mail carriers, and people nearby if they recognize them
💻 File a found report with HHHS
🔎 Have them scanned for a microchip. We have microchip scanning stations around Topeka, and most veterinary offices can scan for a chip, too.
🛋️ Consider finder fostering. If you can safely keep them for a few days, we can help with supplies we have available, such as food, crates, and leashes/collars.

Sometimes, the fastest way to reunite a pet with their family is keeping them close to where they were found while we search for their people. ❤️

YOU CAN HELP IN OTHER WAYS, TOO:
🐶 Share our stray pet posts from the HHHS Lost and Found pets page Your share might be the one that reaches their family.
🚗 Offer a ride. Transportation can be a huge barrier for people trying to reclaim a lost pet. If you can safely give someone a ride to the shelter to pick up their pet, you could help reunite a family.
💉 Microchip your pets and keep the information updated. HHHS offers microchips every day through Admissions for just $20.
🎁 Donate. Pet food, crates, leashes, and collars help us support people in our community who are trying to keep pets safely at home and out of the shelter.

We know bringing a found pet to the shelter often comes from a place of love. ❤️ We just want to make sure every safe option for getting that pet home has been tried, especially while we are at capacity in our dog kennels.

One reunion means one less kennel needed, one less family searching, and one more happily ever after. 🐾

Happy 3rd birthday, Brownie! Make a wish! 🎂🥳

What was it?

To get adopted on your birthday?! That’s a great wish! We know it’s going to happen soon.

We don’t actually know Brownie’s *exact* birth date, but we do know she was only about 6 weeks old when she first arrived at HHHS for the first time in November, 2023, so 9/26/23 is close if not exact.

She was part of a litter of puppies who were found by Animal Control. They went into foster care and then found homes of their own.

Sometimes life takes unexpected turns, and on this part of her journey Brownie found her way back to the shelter to ask a family to love her. 3 years older and wiser, Brownie is just as adorable and smiley as her baby self.
