A brief overview of Gilmore Heritage RV Park
We are four sisters who designed and watched the construction of GHRVP beginning in 2012 when our parents were still alive. Our dad was so excited to see part of the family property turned into an RV Park. He and Mom took pleasure in driving down the road from the home place daily to se
e the progress as mesquite, cactus, and other brush were cleared. Our oldest sister, Ann Gilmore Rizer, lives in Anchorage, AK, having moved there in 1963 as a new bride. Five children later, with wonderful grand kids and great-grand kids, and after the tragic loss of her husband Keith to pancreatic cancer in 2010, she flies down often to check out how things are still developing at the park as we learn and grow. Our next sister Peggy lives in Hunt, TX where she and her husband Mickey retired and built their dream home after raising their two daughters and teaching in Brightwater on Long Island, NY. In her retirement, Peggy (Barbara Jean–her uncle decided she looked like Peggy, and the name stuck) Gilmore Wireman is the full-time secretary at the Kerrville Church of Christ. They enjoy their two talented grand kids who live near Austin. I’m Sue Gilmore Rogers, and I recently moved from South Texas with my husband Keith to the outlying area of Spokane, WA. where our grand kids live. We raised our son and daughter in Gunnison, CO, then moved to South Texas and after retiring from teaching, decided to become Snowbirds. We spent our summers and falls in Pitkin, CO. The youngest sister Ellen (and she often reminds us of her youth!) Gilmore Bystron lives in Live Oak, TX–a San Antonio suburb–where she and husband Emil raised their three daughters and are now happily retired. They, too, enjoy their grandkids–unfortunately, all live too far away! We try to get together several times a year to keep the closeness that we have enjoyed during our lifetimes. The RV Park pulls us home. Our goal is to have a park that reflects the values and work ethic, the heritage, of our grandparents, Tom Sr. and Molly (Steele) Gilmore, and our parents, Thomas Jr.and Frances Gilmore. came to our area from Waxahatchie, TX in 1926 in a railroad car half filled with corn, and 2 working mules. He sent a friend, Mr. Donahue up to Waxahatchie in a car to pick up Molly and their 3 children, Thomas, Kathleen, and Gerald. The family eventually ran a dairy farm, and provided fresh milk, hand delivered, to folks in and around Three Rivers. Thomas Jr. would get up and milk those cows pre-dawn before going on to school for the day. When the depression deepened and Tom was delivering his milk for 25 cents a quart, he made the decision to discontinue his dairy farm and went to work at the Glass Factory in Three Rivers, washing bottles. Thomas, their son, owned his own trucking company (two trucks!)right after he graduated from High School in Three Rivers. He met Frances L. Mikulenka and married her on December 28, 1940. They were blessed with four daughters, and that’s us: Ann, Peggy, Sue, and Ellen. Dad eventually began harvesting crops for others and built up a fleet of combines and hauling trucks which he took from Harlingen up to West Texas yearly. At its peak, his fleet cut and hauled grain enough to fill over 100 freight train cars in one day! Our folks are gone now, after celebrating their 72nd Wedding Anniversary in December 2012. They passed away in early 2013. We four sisters honor them by striving to be honest, friendly, and caring to the patrons of our park. We truly want you to relax and enjoy the park’s serenity as your “base camp”, and enjoy the beauty and history of surrounding towns and cities on day trips. Most sincerely,
