The best leaders have the highest standards. And the highest standards are applied equally to everyone, beginning with themselves. On most teams, the superstars get away with murder while the scrubs, like me in 2002, get picked on for every nitpicky little thing. But the best leaders and the best teams I was ever a part of were different. The superstars were held to the same standard as everyone else. Matter of fact, their accountability was often even higher. Men, especially Christian men, we should crave being held to a high standard no matter what we’re doing. Put men around you who will call you out on your laziness. Your double standards. Your fear of man. Your dysfunction. Because remember: Dysfunctional doesn’t look dysfunctional to the dysfunctional. Every leader needs a man in his corner who has permission to call him out on his dysfunction. Men, if you don’t have one, get one. And a good place to find one is BUILTREADY. Let’s get to work.
