Love this sign posted by our local movie theater — very Telluride! And, it was a good reminder for me to mention that 3-5 new songs from The Doc Project are indeed “definitely coming sometime.” The tentative plan is to record spring/summer and release in the fall. Stay tuned!

Five Fingers Of Funk - My Mom's Prius (Official Music Video) 03/08/2023

I've got to give a shout out to my friend Pete Miser and his band Five Fingers of Funk with their video "My Mom's Prius," which dropped today.

The video is genius -- and hysterical. I had a glimpse at an early cut but the final is even better.

Check it out when you have a chance -- I highly recommend.

Their full album, "Portland Say It Again" will be out on May 5th.

Stoked to be working through new material with Telluride-based guitarist Dustin Wilson. Getting four new original songs into draft form. I usually work through 3-5 home studio draft versions on Logic Pro for each. And, when I’m feeling good about a grouping of home studio recordings, it’s off to the studio to put down the real deal. Not quite there yet, but getting close!

Really inspiring to watch blues legend , age 86, give an amazing performance at “so funky it’s gonna smell” — he did not disappoint. Also, big props to his band 🔥🔥🔥 I can’t find their names listed, but they deserve a special shout out!

Horns: Credit Where Credit is Due — The Doc Project Seven of the nine songs featured in our new album Lost Bags, including our first release Freshwater Fish (1/21), have horn parts. I've been listening to a lot of Jimmy Cliff lately, thinking about new material, and getting inspired.

I love it when I come across a stash of songs that were once favorites of mine but I kinda forgot about for one reason or another. In this case, I’ve rediscovered the songs Sooner or Later, Many Rivers to Cross, and Let Your Yeah Be Yeah — all such great, soulful songs.

Also, I really enjoyed coming across the clip below of Jimmy Cliff and Paul Simon playing Mother and Child Reunion together at Hyde Park in London. In my blog post "Horns: Credit Where Credit Is Due," I write about the overlooked importance of horns -- even simple parts -- in so many genres of rock. If you watch this video, notice how much the song gets a lift at 2:22 when the sax and trumpet come in. As Cliff and the lead guitar wail joyfully above, the song is taken to another level like a boat lifting out of the water when it starts to plane.
