Rising Star Riders, located in Tehachapi, CA, has a mission to serve individuals with physical and emotional challenges through certified therapeutic horseback riding lessons and inclusive mental health services. It is with sadness that I share that our beloved Jahootie was laid to rest on 9/2/26. This is truly one of the hardest losses for me. If you had the pleasure of meeting Jahootie you would know why. Jahootie was given to me by a dear family who were moving away and could not take him with them. He was very loved by their family and was their grandfather’s horse. He went on to teach many of their family members to ride. Jahootie had some hidden talents such as bowing, sitting, laying down on command and lowering himself so his rider could easily mount. Jahootie spent years teaching children to ride at Rising Star Riders. He had one of the most teachable and rideable canters. His personality was full of life. He let you know if he liked or disliked what you were doing but mostly he loved his riders. There are so many stories and I hope if you had the pleasure of knowing Jahootie you will share. Please know that he was very loved and his life was full of meaningful connections. His legacy will live on as I have decided to have the Jahootie Scholarship fund for students and horses. I will keep you posted on the progress of the scholarship. Jahootie was approx 30 years old at the time of his passing. Thank you Dr. Comeau and Lara and John Sturgeon for your love and care during this difficult time. I love you Jahootie! You are very missed.
