Overcomers Outreach is a 12-step, Christ-based recovery program. This month, we reflect on Step 1 which states: “𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗱𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗵𝗼𝗹 — 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲.” Whether you struggle with drugs, alcohol, food, p**n, gambling, gaming, or other compulsive behaviors, we are here for you! Join us as we create new behaviors with the support of community and Christ.

If we've been working the steps, our sobriety is now on a firm foundation. We can now "carry it forward" with this step that reaches out to others in their addiction. We connect with others who need help, and offer kind and nonjudgmental assistance through their journey to sobriety.

It is messy, it is hard, and it is WORTH IT!!! Often, it's those in recovery who have that "sixth sense" of finding those who need help, and who can relate to the shame, chaos, and indecision it brings. If you're at the end of your rope, come join us, we love you and want a peaceful and loving life for you. You're among friends.

This step is another "maintenance step" that builds on step 10's awareness and self-reflection. It is a means to more deeply connect us to Christ through the daily spiritual practices of prayer and meditation. Many in recovery came from an environment of chaos, this step guides us to "get quiet" in the chaos, and hear our Father's guidance.

As members of the OMS, one way we engage our vow to be true to Christ is to continue learning and growing, and to help others do the same.

God, I open my heart again today to all you want to teach me. Allow me opportunities for deeper learning and growth, and may I pass these things along to others. Thank you for friendships that go there spiritually.

In August, we are studying Step 8: “𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗮𝗹𝗹.” We encourage you to find an accountability partner or a sponsor to help you walk this step. Confession to God is often easier than admitting a slip to another human being, but this is a necessary step in the journey to maintain our sobriety. It's important to find someone mature and empathetic to share with - someone who will listen without judgement.

𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝟰: 𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗮 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀.

In April, we are tackling self-awareness, trying to view ourselves "soberly" - that is, accurately and realistically. A moral inventory of ourselves will "shine a light" on our hangups/hurts/failings, but it also forces us to look at our inherent goodness and our "wins" as well. God created each of us with unique abilities and gifts, we were created for a purpose. You can start unwrapping your gifts (and "red flags") as you tackle to this step.

Lamentations 3:40 states, "Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord." Our Overcomer's group is there to support you as you peel back the layers to reveal the precious creation you were meant to be!

"Surrender" can be a hard concept to grasp, especially for those who have had to survive by their own actions. God does not want us to suffer under these "old ways of being" of surviving and not thriving. Instead, He wants us to lay our burdens at His feet. We will be discussing this concept during our meetings in March.
