The National Weather Service is predicting two rounds of storms to impact the area on Wednesday June 17th, 2026.
Please monitor the weather via local media outlets. We will update you of any changes. Keep in mind these following points...
1. Have a plan to seek shelter if indicated. The Taylorville Fire Department is a designated storm shelter so don't hesitate to come if you are in the area or do not have access to one.
2. Stay tuned to local media throughout the day for updates.
3. 2 outdoor weather sirens, located on E. Main Cross near the Food Pantry and Airlawn Drive near the airport, are currently not operational. Our maintenance vendor was working on them yesterday and has to order parts to finish the repair. All of the other sirens are functional.
4. Residents are encouraged to sign up for our mass notification system called Hyper Reach. See the attached photo for 5 easy ways to sign up so that notifications come straight to your phone.
5. TFD is in constant contact with the Weather Service during events like this and will push out notifications as soon as possible.
🚨Crews are currently performing maintenance on tornado sirens. You may hear a short siren sound if you live near a site. There is no threat of severe weather today. 6/15/26🚨
🚨We are currently monitoring the weather and are in direct contact with the national weather service. 🚨
Taylorville and the Taylorville Fire Protection District is currently only experiencing some strong thunderstorms.
The Tornado warning was primarily for the north side of the county.
We will continue to monitor the situation and will be in direct contact with the National Weather service out of Lincoln until the warning for Christian County expires.
Please stay tuned to local media and local news. Sources for further updates.

A huge thank you to our local Taylorville-Walmart. Today, they stopped by to present us with a truckload of water, snacks, a microwave and a new vacuum cleaner for International Firefighters’ Day.
We are very grateful to have great partners in our community and we truly appreciate their support!
