Happy Mercy Day

On September 24, 1827, Catherine McAuley opened the first House of Mercy on Baggot Street in Dublin, Ireland, creating a place of refuge, care, and education for women and children in need.

Nearly 200 years later, her legacy of compassion and service continues through the Sisters of Mercy and Mercy ministries around the world, including MercyFirst.

Today, on Mercy Day, we honor Catherine McAuley’s vision and celebrate the Mercy tradition that continues to inspire our work with children and families each day.

Today, on the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we remember and honor the lives lost, the courage and sacrifice of first responders, and the strength and resilience of our communities.

May we continue to carry their memory with us and honor the spirit of unity that brought so many together in the days that followed.

💜 September is Kinship Care Month!

This month, MercyFirst is proud to recognize Ms. Tiffany Maisonet, whose commitment to her younger sister is a powerful example of the love and stability kinship caregivers provide.

When her sister entered foster care, Ms. Maisonet immediately stepped forward to provide a safe and supportive home. Through her dedication, accountability, reliability, and perseverance, she has remained a consistent source of encouragement and belonging, helping her sister overcome challenges, graduate from high school, and continue her education in college.

Ms. Maisonet’s commitment to caring for others also extends to her community. She is working toward opening The House of Ruth, a group home dedicated to providing young women with a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment where they can not only survive, but thrive.

During Kinship Care Month, we celebrate Ms. Maisonet and all kinship caregivers who open their homes and hearts to help keep families connected and strong. 💜

🎒 A big thank you to Tristan Mathai of Boy Scout Troop 240 in West Hempstead for choosing MercyFirst for his Eagle Scout Service Project.

Through his Backpacks of Hope project, Tristan generously donated 60 backpacks filled with school supplies, along with bins of additional supplies, to help the children and youth we serve start the school year prepared and ready to learn.

We are grateful to Tristan and Troop 240 for their generosity and commitment to giving back to their community. 💙
