I just keep telling myself tough times don’t last...
Neighborhood hot laps with the white dog to warm up on a chilly Saturday morning. This was a GREAT mental/emotional break from all the craziness that is going on and Arya was a rockstar as always.
Next is the AT-HOME WOD so I’m not neglecting the ole functional capacities.
Happy Saturday I guess? Now how should I wake up to make her do the partner WOD with me?

Samantha and I welcomed our baby girl to the world yesterday and we could not be more filled with love in our heart.
Both baby and momma are doing very well in recovery. This was a bit earlier than anticipated, but we can handle it...
..and I can’t wait to teach this sweet pea how to LYFE.

Life is pretty rad. I think this last weekend’s inaugural was one of the all-time coolest moments for me as an athlete. To think that the barbell got me to this point in my life is surreal. I started lifting weights when I was 14. When I first started it was because I was being bullied (like everyone at that age) and I was sick of it, so I decided to start building my body. Fast forward a quick 17 years and here we are.

Let’s talk stuff!
The deadlift is one of the most functional exercises a single human can do. It’s so functional of a movement that you don’t even think about it when you’re doing it dozens of times per day.
Dynamic effort method was perfected by a fella named Louie Simmons. The idea is to develop the ability to pull with speed by adding what’s called accommodating resistance with bands or sometimes chains.
Accommodating resistance simply put is summing up the fact that while you lift the weight (deadlift in this case) the band stretches and adds extra resistance to the bar. However the extra resistance is concentric with how high you lift the bar.
As you lift into “lockout” position of the deadlift the bands stretch and add resistance. This teaches the movement pattern muscles that they need produce for force as you lift through range of motion. This teaches your muscles how to accelerate a barbell.
