The work I am creating in this season of life is honest and vulnerable, raw and empathetic. Though it is often created in solitude, its purpose is to create a sense of connectedness.

We are constantly fed the message that outcomes matter above all else: increase your reach, make the sale, scale your business. While these things are important - they keep the lights on, build community, and allow me to continue doing the work I love - but there is another, quieter measure of success that I keep returning to: the small joys of creating because I simply cannot not create.
For years, I've been stashing away first attempts, failed experiments, and unfinished watercolor paintings that will never be sold. Even if I didn't love the painting as a whole, each contains several beautiful little moments that I couldn't just throw out.
For the past couple weeks, I've been repurposing them into recycled watercolor pendants. I'm so pleased with how they are turning out and can't wait to debut them at She Creates!
"Rewilding" is on the way to her forever home and "Galene Calms the Tide" has taken her place at Prairie Pages!

Not every piece is meant for a collection or a gallery wall. Sometimes, creating is simply about following an impulse or an act of self love.
These leafy little jade earrings remind me that making for the joy of it matters as much as anything else.

I have no trouble starting new projects - I am usually brimming with ideas and can't wait to get starts. However, if a piece doesn't come together in one sitting, it can be a lot harder to finish.
These are all of my current works in progress - some have been waiting for years (I'm looking at you, giant loom in the back), some for a few months.
I've held lots of guilt for this over the years, but I'm working on accepting that this is part of my creative process. Not every piece will come to fruition - and that's okay.
