Most of our Book Club Kits have at least 10 regular print copies of the book as well as 2 large print copies and 1 audiobook. Kits can be checked out for up to 12 weeks.

Holds cannot be placed on Book Club Kits. They are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Many titles are also available in eBook or audiobook formats from Libby.

Join us on Thursday, August 13 at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room for a special talk by Dr. Crystal M. Moten, an award-winning public historian and the Associate Director of Collections at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture.

During the mid-century civil rights revolution, Black communities around the country rose up to resist racial injustice in a number of areas including education, politics, and housing. An undertold aspect of this history are the battles these revolutionaries waged against economic and employment discrimination, and especially from the perspective of Black working women. This lecture will explore the stories of Black working women who resisted employment inequality in the Midwest, from the 1940s to the 1970s. Dr. Crystal M. Moten will center the political and intellectual strategies that Black Midwestern working women used to critique and resist employment discrimination. Exploring their tireless efforts sheds light on histories we desperately need and provides possibilities for strategies that can inform a blueprint for today.

Swap, browse, and connect! Join us on Friday August 7th from 10:00 AM to Noon for a free curriculum swap, open to all homeschooling families! Bring any books, curricula, or manipulatives you no longer need and pass them along to a family who can put them to good use. Browse what others have brought, stock up for the year ahead, and connect with other local homeschoolers over snacks. All are welcome!

Join us on Thursday, August 20 at 6:30 PM in The Mixer for an Artist Trading Cards Workshop!

In this workshop, you will be creating your own Artist Trading Cards (ATCs)! At the end of the session, participants can choose to trade/exchange cards. Although you are not required to trade, it is encourage to make at least one card for trading to celebrate creativity and community! Supplies will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own materials to use or share. No prior art experience is required!

Be a Book Cover Artist is for ages 5-8. Join us on Wednesday, August 12 at 2:00 PM! Bring your favorite books for inspiration, and draw a brand-new cover! We’ll have time to look at each other’s designs and collect images into a book the library will have in the collection. Mr. Vin, teen library intern, will lead kids through this activity, blending art and a love of books!

Registration is required. Space will be limited. Children can be left with the librarian as long as they are registered.
