The mission of the Sumter Opera House is to enrich the cultural lives of our community, neighbors, and visitors by providing diverse creative experiences.
The Sumter Opera House is a beautiful historic site with a rich past. Completed in 1895, it has served as an opera house, a music academy, a movie theatre, city offices, a meat market, barber shop, and even a jail. Still home to City Hall, many city departments and City Council chambers, the Sumter Opera House is once again presenting a performance series in an effort to contribute to downtown revitalization. The 550-seat theatre boasts excellent acoustics, a proscenium decorated with Art Deco gold-leaf, and provides the perfect intimate venue to see your favorite artists. Check out the event schedule and make plans now to attend a performance inside the Sumter Opera House!
We've got so much to look forward to with our renovation. Having a modern, accessible loading dock is essential as we strive to book the best artists in the business to Sumter.
For our patrons, we can't wait for you to share in joy of our gorgeous new art deco-inspired chairs! They are even more beautiful in person.

🚧 If you drive down Main Street, you might notice a lot of work happening to the old general store next to the Opera House.
We're so thrilled at the rehabilitation of this old building and the new life being breathed into it. It will soon have many key functionalities for our space–office and administration spaces, technical and backstage facilities for our crew, ushers, and artists, a ticket office, and service as a major entrance!
Popsicle delivery day to the incredible crew at Hood Construction! So grateful for the hard work this team is putting in and we had to surprise them with a little treat amidst summer's soaring temps. 🍦 🚧
