The investigation began on July 10, 2026, after Deputies responded to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center at the request of the Port St. Lucie Police Department, which was assisting the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) with an investigation. The call to Tricia Maciejewski that August afternoon was from her son, Brady, then 16 years old.

She was at a friend’s house two years ago, finishing an interior painting job before classes started the next day at a school where she teaches reading. Brady was calling from home.

“Mom, Levi is dead,” he told her.

Police later said that Levi had been extorted in an online scheme involving creating and sending sexually explicit pictures with demands for money along with threats of public disclosure. That was less than two days after Levi got his mom’s permission to open an Instagram account.

Complaints about online enticement — a broad category that includes sextortion — have been ballooning.
