The 80,000 Driver Shortage: Market Myth or Structural Reality?

The industry keeps debating the driver shortage.

Some call it a true shortage.
Some call it a retention problem.
Some say the issue is not drivers, it is finding qualified, reliable capacity when freight actually needs to move.

For shippers, the debate does not change the operational reality.

When capacity tightens, freight still has to move.

That is where the difference between a transactional broker and a real logistics partner shows up.

At Hudson Freight, we do not rely on hope, cheap trucks, or last-minute load board scrambling.

We move with structure.

▪️ Carrier relationships before capacity problems
We build and maintain relationships with reliable carriers before the market gets tight.

▪️ Organized carrier intelligence
Our CRM and TMS help us track carrier strengths, lanes, equipment, history, and performance.

▪️ Direct carrier outreach
When a customer awards us freight, we are not just posting and praying. We go back to proven carriers who already understand the lane.

▪️ Strategy over scrambling
Capacity issues expose weak systems fast. We help shippers stay ahead instead of reacting after the load is already at risk.

The driver shortage conversation is bigger than one number.

But the lesson is simple:

Your freight strategy is only as strong as the carrier relationships behind it.

If your freight needs reliable movement, Hudson Freight is built for that.

You don’t need a truck to make money in trucking.

You need a desk, a phone, and somebody who actually runs a successful agency to show you how it works.

Here’s what nobody explains. Freight agents coordinate loads and earn commission off every single one. No truck note. No fuel. No sitting in a yard at 2am. You connect the freight to the people who haul it, and you get paid a cut of every load that moves.

We’ve been doing this since 2016. Built Hudson Freight from the ground up. Slow market or not, freight still moves. The loads don’t stop.

Most people never learn this side exists. They think trucking means driving. It doesn’t. The money on the office side is real, and it repeats.
That’s what TruckN 2 Profit is.

Two days, live. We teach you the freight agent model, the sales side, how to talk to shippers and carriers, and how to actually build relationships.

You don’t get a “good luck” and a wave. You get continued support and placed as a sub-agent under Hudson Freight for a full year. Build your book of business even as a beginner under a real agency.

Next class is June 27th. Two days live plus one year placement (or longer).

This is for you if you’re a driver tired of the road, a dispatcher already doing the work, or somebody with zero trucking background looking for a real income path that isn’t another scam.

Seats are limited because the placement is real.

DM AGENT or send me a DM and I’ll get you the details.

Brokers know this kind of panic too well…

The driver won’t answer.
The dispatcher won’t answer.
Delivery was supposed to happen an hour ago.
Then you check FreightGuard and see the carrier allegedly stole a load last night.

That is not just “a bad day in freight.”

That is why carrier vetting, communication, documentation, and systems matter.

Freight will expose you fast when you’re moving off vibes instead of process.

Inside **Truckn 2 Profit**, we don’t just talk about getting into freight.

We talk about how to move smarter, protect the customer, and understand the real business behind the load.

Because in this industry, one bad carrier decision can cost way more than the load.

Follow for real freight lessons, broker life, and logistics business moves.

Manifesting without dialing is just journaling.

You can write the vision. You can speak the affirmations. You can build the mood board.

The shipper still has to be called.

Every freight agent I know who is actually eating, picked up the phone. Every one I know who is still “getting ready to start,” did not.

The phone is not the obstacle. The phone is the answer.

People try to go around it with cold emails, DMs, LinkedIn messages, content, automations. All of that has its place. None of it replaces a voice on the other end of a line.

If your business is stuck, check your call log before you check your calendar.

The dial is the difference.

What is one shipper you have been meaning to call this week? Drop their first name in the comments. Not the company you are prospecting.

Accountability starts here.

I keep seeing people say the trucking market is slow…

But let’s be honest for a second

Freight is still moving every single day
Shippers still need loads covered
Carriers still need freight

So what actually changed?

The easy money is gone

Now it takes:
• Consistency
• Follow-up
• Real strategy
• Actual effort

And that’s where most people fall off

The ones who stayed disciplined?
They’re still getting paid

If you’ve been thinking about getting into freight
or you’ve been stuck trying to figure it out…

This market is still FULL of opportunity

You just have to move different

Comment “AGENT” and I’ll show you how to get started 🚛

Everybody saying “the market is slow”
but nobody wants to talk about WHY

No structure
No consistency
No real strategy

Meanwhile, freight is still moving every day 🚛

The difference is who actually knows how to move in this market

If you’re ready to stop watching and start brokering freight

Everybody got something to say when you finally decide to move.

Too risky.
Too hard.
That don’t work.

But ask them one question…

‘Have you done it?’ 🤷🏽‍♀️

Silence.

That’s your answer.

Most people aren’t giving you advice.
They’re projecting their fear.

Freight is one of those lanes people talk about without understanding.

You don’t need a truck.
You don’t need to go into debt.
You don’t need to guess your way through it.

You just need the right lane.

I teach this. Link in bio. Or comment “Agent”

Everybody keeps telling y’all to start a trucking company…

Buy a truck.
Get your authority.
Hire drivers.

Cool.

But what if I told you that’s NOT how I got in the game?

2016…

I started as a freight agent.

No truck.
No authority.
No big startup money.

Just me, learning how to broker freight and figure it out in real time.

And listen…

It was pressure.

Getting told no.
Losing loads.
Having to solve problems on the fly with people depending on me.

But I stayed in it.

And that decision turned into a multi-million dollar freight agency.

Not theory.
Not YouTube.
Not “I heard…”

I actually did this.

Now here’s what I see every single day…

People trying to come into this industry the hardest way possible.

Spending money they don’t have.
Taking on risk they don’t understand.
Skipping right over the lane that actually makes sense.

Being a freight agent is the entry point nobody is explaining right.

And that’s exactly why most people stay stuck on the outside looking in.

So let me ask you directly…

Are you trying to get into logistics right now?

If you are, comment “AGENT” or send me a message.

I’ll show you what this lane really looks like and how to get started the right way. 👀

03/18/2026

They see the results now and think it came quick.

It didn’t.

2016, my husband and I stepped into the logistics world as freight agents with more questions than answers. No blueprint handed to us. No real understanding of how big this industry actually was. Just a decision that we were going to figure it out.

And freight will humble you fast.

Call after call. Long days. Missed loads. Bad carriers. Decision makers who don’t call you back. Learning how to build relationships from scratch. Figuring out how to make money without a safety net 😮‍💨.

There’s no applause in the beginning of this.

Just pressure.

Somewhere in that process, Hudson Freight was built. Not overnight. Not clean. Built in real time while life was still life-ing. Marriage, kids, responsibilities, all of it.

And here’s the part nobody really talks about…

You can build something that makes money and still feel like you’re figuring yourself out at the same time.

That was us.

Fast forward to 2026, and we still in it. Still brokering freight. Still learning. Still building but now with a whole lot of skin in the game 💪🏽 .

Freight changed our lives, but not because it was easy.

Because we kept going through all the ups and downs. The past due bills, The doubts. The self sabotage moments. The moments of uncertainty.

Most people don’t even know this path exists. They’re looking at trucking, dispatching, starting businesses that require way more than what’s actually necessary to get in the game.

Being a freight agent is one of the most overlooked lanes in this industry.

And it’s real.

Real business. Real income. Real pressure but also comes with Real freedom.

If I started today, I wouldn’t move the same way I did in 2016.

I’d move faster.

I’d avoid a lot of mistakes.

And I’d get to the money quicker.

That’s exactly why I talk about it now.

If you’ve been looking into logistics, trucking, or trying to figure out where you fit in this industry…

Have you ever even considered becoming a freight agent?

02/26/2026

I get this question a lot. How do I become a freight agent or how do I get started as a freight agent?
