Stevens Point Fire Fighters - IAFF Local 484

We are a few days late...however, on September 28, 1936 we affiliated with the International Association of Fire Fighters receiving our Local number of 0484...This year we celebrate 90 years as a Local...we owe our founding 12 members who wanted better working conditions, wages and hours that took the steps of establishing our Union and affiliation with the IAFF.

Currently, we have a membership of 45 from Stevens Point and 6 Affiliate members from Plover Paramedics, totaling 51 members!

Congratulations Brother Zander on his work anniversary!!

Matt has served as Vice President and President of our organization, along with various committees…he currently Chairs our Bargaining Committee…

Zander also chairs our Operation Warm Coats for Kids campaign, serving as Director of our Fire Fighters Charitable Foundation.

His knowledge and drive is astounding with all that he continues to provide for our Union and Charities.

Over the past 16 years, Lt. Zander has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to our department and the community we serve. From responding to emergencies to mentoring fellow firefighters and helping keep Stevens Point safe, his leadership, professionalism, and dedication have made a lasting impact.

Milestones like this represent thousands of calls, countless hours of training, and a true commitment to public service.

Lt. Zander also holds the distinction of being the Stevens Point Fire Department’s first Smoke Diver—a difficult and demanding achievement that requires exceptional skill, training, and dedication. It is both a significant accomplishment and a great honor.

Congratulations, Lieutenant Zander, on 16 years of dedicated service! Thank you for your commitment to the Stevens Point Fire Department and the community you serve.

What an incredible day to be a part of Mid-State Technical College Nexus Public Safety Center located on the east side of Stevens Point.

The fundraising campaign officially started today, and we are excited to be able to support this project to assist in training our future generations & leaders.

We are excited to have partnered with Mid-State Technical College for the future of public safety training in Central Wisconsin!

A major step forward for public safety education and training is underway in central Wisconsin.

Mid-State Technical College has launched the campaign for the Nexus Public Safety Center in partnership with the City of Stevens Point and public safety agencies across the region.

The approximately $32 million project will bring together a Mid-State education and training center, a City of Stevens Point fire station, and a satellite police station in one 71,000-square-foot complex. An additional $13 million investment in outdoor training environments will support realistic, scenario-based training across multiple public safety disciplines.

The campaign is already off to a strong start, with more than $2.5 million raised toward the project.

🙏 The IAFF is saddened to announce the passing of General Secretary-Treasurer Emeritus Thomas H. “Tommy” Miller.

A second-generation fire fighter, Navy veteran, and lifelong union leader, Tommy served 37 years with the Indianapolis Fire Department. He went on to serve as president of the Professional Fire Fighters Union of Indiana, IAFF 8th District vice president, and General Secretary-Treasurer from 2010 until his retirement in 2016.

Tommy said he wanted to be remembered as someone who helped people. Across nearly five decades of service to our union, he did exactly that – improving the lives of countless fire fighters, retirees, and their families.

Our thoughts are with his wife, Barb; their children, Stephanie, Thomas, Joseph (Madison), and Claire; his grandson, Benjamin; and all who knew and loved him.
