UWSP Study Abroad

Hi everyone! Welcome to Day 5 of my Instagram takeover for the German ISU Program in Kassel!
After sharing some of my favorite moments from this trip, I wanted to take a little time today to talk about why I think studying abroad is such an incredible opportunity—and why you should consider doing it too!
Studying abroad isn’t only about traveling. It’s also about stepping outside of your comfort zone. You learn how to navigate unfamiliar places, communicate with people who may speak a different language, become more independent, and discover things about yourself that you may not have known before.
As a fine arts student, this experience has also given me so much inspiration. Being surrounded by different architecture, museums, history, and culture has allowed me to see art from a completely different perspective.
There have definitely been moments when things felt unfamiliar or challenging, but those moments have made the experience even more meaningful. You realize that it’s okay to be nervous, make mistakes, and not know exactly what you’re doing at first.
So, if you’re a student thinking about studying abroad, take the opportunity! Apply for the program, ask questions, talk to professors, and don’t let fear hold you back. You don’t have to know exactly what every day will look like—you just have to be willing to take that first step.
This trip has given me memories, friendships, experiences, and stories that I know I’ll be talking about for years to come. I’m so grateful that I had the opportunity to study in Kassel, Germany, and I hope that by sharing my experience, I can encourage someone else to take the leap and have an adventure of their own.

🇩🇪 Day 4 of my Instagram Takeover: Peer Interview! 🇩🇪
Today, I got to interview my peer Cathy from Taiwan! 🇹🇼 I asked her about one of the coolest experiences she has had during her time in Germany, and she shared that living with a host family has been one of her favorites. Since her host family is a typical German family, she has had the opportunity to practice German with native speakers while also getting to experience local places and everyday German life. It’s such a great way to experience the culture beyond the classroom!
I also asked Cathy why she chose the ISU Kassel program. She had traveled to Germany before and really enjoyed the culture, but she wanted to experience Germany in a completely different way. Studying abroad in Germany is much different from simply traveling, and she wanted the opportunity to live, learn, and experience everyday life in Kassel. Hearing Cathy’s experience is just another reminder that studying abroad is about so much more than seeing new places it’s about immersing yourself in a new culture, making connections, and creating experiences you’ll never forget!

✨ DAY THREE OF MY TAKEOVER: A DAY IN MY LIFE! ✨
Come spend a day in my life studying abroad in Kassel, Germany!
My day started by hopping on the bus and then walking to class. One of my favorite parts of my walk is passing by my favorite vending machine right next to the gelato shop because obviously, that’s an important part of the journey!
Then it was time for German Politics & History! The first half of class was a lecture where we learned more about Germany’s history and political system. After class, I headed to the Mensa for lunch before making my way back to class.
Of course, I couldn’t walk past the gelato shop without stopping… so I treated myself to some Gelato! Studying abroad is all about balance, right?
After my little gelato break, I headed back to class to practice my presentation before the second half of class. Then it was time for our group presentations, where we got to share what we had been working on!
And just like that… another day in Germany came to an end!
That’s a day in my life studying abroad!

✨ DAY TWO OF MY TAKEOVER! 🇩🇪🇫🇷✨
Day two was definitely one for the books!
One of the coolest places I got to visit was the Volkswagen factory in Kassel, Germany! I could only sneak a few photos, but trust me, the experience was SO cool! As someone who loves building cars and learning about engines, parts, and how everything comes together, getting to see where parts are actually being made was such an incredible experience. It was amazing getting a closer look at the work and technology that goes into something I’ve always been fascinated by!
And then came the weekend adventure… FRANCE!
I got to visit the Eiffel Tower, which was absolutely amazing! But one of my favorite parts of the trip was getting to feel like a kid again at Disneyland Paris! From riding the Ratatouille ride and the Frozen ride to walking around the parks, laughing, and making memories with my host sister and friends, it was a weekend I’ll never forget.
It’s moments like these that remind me just how lucky I am to be studying abroad getting to learn, explore, meet new people, and experience things I never thought I’d get to do and you can experience these opportunities to by stopping down at the study abroad office or one study abroad fair to find a program for you or to take the program I did And there’s still SO much more to share!

✨ 🇩🇪DAY ONE OF MY TAKEOVER! 🇩🇪✨
Hi everyone! My name is SaDe, and I’m so excited to take you along with me as I study abroad in Kassel, Germany during the summer of my junior year! I’m here through the ISU Track Program, where I’ll be studying the Brothers Grimm Fairy-Tale Track, along with German History and Politics.As a Fine Arts major, I’m especially excited to experience Germany’s art, history, culture, and, of course, the stories that inspired some of the world’s most famous fairy tales such as Rapunzel and Cinderella!
Even though I’ve only been here for a few days, I’ve already had the amazing opportunity to meet people from all over the world including Australia, England, and different states across the U.S.! It’s been so exciting hearing everyone’s stories, learning about different cultures, and making new connections along the way.
This is just the beginning of my adventure, and I can’t wait to share more of my experiences, discoveries, and memories with you!
