The Auxiliary Police Unit is a volunteer unit that assists the Police Department with special tasks.
The Stevens Point Auxiliary Unit is comprised of volunteers from the community who assist the SPPD with various events, including Riverfront Rendezvous, High School sporting events and dances, various runs and parades. Duties range from general security to traffic control and handing our deparment souvenirs.
On September 17, 2026, the Stevens Point Police Auxiliary Unit recognized Sergeant Fred Strasser as he officially retired from the Auxiliary Unit.
Sgt. Strasser dedicated countless hours to serving the Stevens Point community and supporting the Auxiliary Unit throughout his years of service. His leadership, commitment, and willingness to serve have left a lasting impact on our members and our organization.
We are proud to share the video from Sgt. Strasser’s retirement ceremony and recognize his dedicated service to our department and community.

Larry has served with the Stevens Point Auxiliary Police Unit since November 15, 2023. He joined after retiring as a way to get out of the house, spend time with others, and continue helping members of the community.
His favorite part of serving is being around people and helping the community.
Fun Fact: Larry spent 38 years in the fire service as both a volunteer and full-time firefighter!
