Project Overview
The Construction Project Management Team invites you to attend a construction information
meeting to discuss the upcoming Business 51 South Project construction. Project staff will share
construction details, staging, schedule, traffic impacts and other information.
Meeting Format: Open House
This meeting will follow an informal open-house format. No formal presentation will be made. You
are encouraged to attend at your convenience during the scheduled hours to:
• View project maps and proposed schedules.
• Speak one-on-one with the project management team.
• Provide your input and ask specific questions about potential construction impacts.
Traffic Impacts
During construction, Business 51 will be detoured via CTH HH, Hoover Avenue, and Patch Street.
Access to homes and businesses will be maintained through construction of the project in 5 stages,
as outlined below. During each of these stages, a portion of Business 51 or Church Street will be fully
closed except for access to driveways via a gravel surface within the work zone.
• Stage 1 – South City Limits to Church St
• Stage 2 – Church St intersection
• Stage 3 – Bus 51 from Church St to Nebel St
• Stage 4 – Bus 51 and Nebel St Intersection
• Stage 5 – Bus 51 from Nebel St to Heffron St

PROJECT IMPROVEMENTS SCHEDULED FOR TUESDAY, MAY 19, 2026.
The Construction Project Management Team will host a construction information
meeting for the Business 51 Southside Project on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, from 6:00 to
8:00 p.m., at Mid-State Technical College located at 1001 Centerpoint Drive in Stevens

Press Release
Michigan Avenue North to Close on Monday, May 11, 2026.
Michigan Avenue North between North Point Drive and the driveway to SentryWorld will
close to all traffic starting Monday, May 11, 2026, for installation of private utilities. A detour
will be installed to route traffic around the project area. Work is expected to be completed
the week of May 18th, with the road reopening to traffic.
This work depends on crew availability, weather, and field conditions

May 6th, 2026

On Wednesday, May 6th, 2026, from 1830-2100, the Stevens Point Fire Department, in conjunction with our Metro Fire partners, the Village of Plover Fire Department and the Town of Hull Fire Department, will be conducting Live Fire Training at 3100 Whiting Ave. in the City of Stevens Point.

SPFD personnel's training is vital in maintaining knowledge and proficiency in Fire Behavior, Fire Suppression, Search and Rescue, Incident Management, Communications, and other response-related disciplines. Objective-based scenarios have been developed to follow National Fire Protection Association standards for safe and effective training.

The Stevens Point Fire Department would also like to thank the neighbors in the area for their support during this training exercise.

Note to the Public: Large amounts of smoke will sometimes be present.

Patch St. to Close between Michigan & Blaine Starting Tuesday, April 14

Road Construction/Closings

Patch Street will be closed to all traffic west of the signalized intersection at Michigan Avenue to Blaine Street beginning Tuesday, April 14, 2026, for underground utility installation. The work is anticipated to take approximately two weeks to complete. A signed detour will be in place during the closure to route traffic around the construction area. This work depends on crew availability, weather, and field conditions

Pickup and Drop-off of Storm Damage Branches

For those City residents unable to transport storm-damaged branches, we will offer curbside pickup. Branches should be placed at the roadway edge by Monday, April 13, parallel to the road, in an orderly fashion so they can be picked up by equipment.

The Yard Waste Drop-Off Site in front of the City Garage, 100 Sixth Ave., will be open Monday-Friday, April 6 - 10, 9 am - 7 pm, to accommodate City of Stevens Point residents with tree branches (no stumps/logs) to dispose of from last week's ice storm.

Hours of operation at the City yard waste drop-off will be extended. They will be open from 9 am until 7 pm on Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday. A special pick-up will be organized late next week if warranted.

Green Avenue to close to through traffic as part of the 2025 Fall Paving Project starting
on Monday, March 30, 2026.
The 2025 Fall Paving Project 25-103 is scheduled to begin on Monday, March 30, 2026, and
is anticipated to be completed by mid-June. Work will take place on Green Avenue between
Odessa Court and Kennedy Drive, and on Green Court from Green Avenue to the west
terminus. Drivers can expect delays as the project begins. Green Avenue will be closed to
through traffic while work is underway. Local traffic will be maintained to the greatest
extent practicable, however, at times access will not be possible. Please visit our website
