We are visiting the All American Grooming Show in Illinois! This event is full of continuing education seminars, and we kicked it off with a 15 coat types all day course that covers the 15 different coat types, their function, and how to best approach them in grooming.

Tomorrow we have classes on canine anatomy, Asian fusion, and efficient grooming!

Continuing education is the responsibility of every groomer and we are happy to have this opportunity!

I’ve been struggling with whether or not to share this, but these dogs need people to know about them.

Recently, I came across the story of 36 dogs who were rescued from an unimaginable situation after living for years in severe neglect. I’m intentionally not sharing the photographs. They are incredibly difficult to look at, and I don’t believe anyone needs to see them to understand that these dogs have been through more than they ever should have.

What struck me most wasn’t anger. It was sadness.

There is a human story behind this situation too—one involving severe mental illness, addiction, isolation, and someone who clearly needed help long before things reached this point. I don’t want this post to be about condemning her. I don’t know her story, and I don’t believe cruelty or judgment toward a person helps these dogs now.

What matters today is that 36 dogs survived.

They are now in the care of people who are working to give them medical attention, safety, food, clean surroundings, and something many of them have probably never truly known: comfort.

And that takes an enormous amount of resources.

If you’re in a position to help, please consider donating to the shelter currently caring for these dogs. Even a few dollars can help with food, veterinary care, medications, grooming, cleaning supplies, and the countless other expenses that come with taking in a large number of severely neglected animals at once.

You don’t have to look at the photographs. You don’t have to share the story. You don’t have to have the right words.

You can simply help.

They have already survived the worst part. Now they deserve the chance to discover what the rest of their lives can be.

Don’t let pets eat cyanobacterial scum or lick it off their fur
Wash your pet with clean water right away if they swim or wade in water during a bloom
Seek care from a vet right away for pets with sudden, severe symptoms

I wanted to share a quick personal update. I’ve recently been diagnosed with Lyme disease. I’m currently working through treatment and learning how to manage symptoms like fatigue and flare-ups.

What this means for The Groom Room:
• I will still be grooming and keeping my current schedule as much as possible.
• There may be occasional reschedules if I’m having a rough day
• I truly appreciate your patience and understanding while I navigate this

My goal is always to give your dogs the highest quality care, and sometimes that may mean adjusting things to make sure I’m able to show up at my best for them.
