The students of Imagine East Mesa in Mesa, Arizona, participate in one of eight House systems that is the focus of this 2023 Promising Practice. Through an intentional implementation where relationships are at the root, this House system has generated a new enthusiasm among staff and students. All staff members, including cafeteria workers, teachers, bus drivers, and school leaders, are members of a House encouraging staff and student interactions that otherwise would not be possible without this practice.


We posed the question, "Why do some students lie?" to two pupils, and here are their perspectives!

Millstone Middle School is starting out 2024 strongly as they continue to uplift their students daily!

They're a school that believes in being respectful, inclusive, empathetic, united, and productive, teaching students that the future can be better if we all work together!


Meet Dover Hills Middle School located in Dover, New Jersey! Their Promising Practice, “Character Counts,” is a student mentorship program for students in grades 6-8. These student leaders use the district’s Core Values of Trustworthy, Integrity, Giving, Empathy, Respect, and Service to create activities for classroom visits with younger elementary students using discussion, videos, and artwork.

Leonard Elementary, located in Troy, MI, is dedicated to helping change the world for the better through different programs, the most notable being Family Circles — a practice where students from kindergarten to 5th Grade meet to create bonds and share experiences.

Through values such as kindness, integrity, and respect, Leonard Elementary is striving to make a difference.

Ivanhoe Grammar School, located in Melbourne, Australia, is the proud recipient of Australia’s first Promising Practice! This practice, “Ivanhoe Grammar School Army Cadet Unit - A Community of Character,” encourages students to participate in the Cadet Unit from Year 8 onward and focuses on building collegiality in the community and developing character strengths such as leadership, resilience, service, courage, and integrity.


Today's video showcases a courageous young girl who opposed harassment. She took action when she saw a classmate being treated poorly, averting a possible altercation. Her story underlines the fact that defending others is an effective method to develop character and foster respect.


The students of Forest Hills Elementary in Florence, Alabama, participate in Community Meetings where positive character traits are taught and practiced. The school is a proud recipient of its first Promising Practice, “Virtue Videos.” School and community members engage as partners to create monthly videos that show the importance of living out the virtues both in life and in the workplace.
