Today was our last Engineering club and our six students participated in their final project, an egg drop. For this egg drop their constraints were to only use no less than five (5) or more than ten (10) materials. Of the six (6) eggs dropped, five (5) survived. That’s amazing.

Thanks to Abby for being librarian of the day today! She led a Weird But True game with 3rd & 5th grades, read a book to 1st grade, helped kids check out, processed some new books, and scanned books for our end of year inventory. What a productive day!

Fairy tales today! Studio K was challenged to build a bridge using dinosaurs as their “troll” and small wild animals or cars as their “goats” after reading “The Three Billy Goats Gruff.” Could their troll fit under the bridge and their goats get across?

The Caldecott Award is given to the “most distinguished American picture book for children.” This week fifth graders participated in a Mock Caldecott Award activity. Today they read several books that could qualify for the Caldecott Award, evaluated the artwork and rated each book based on several criteria. We’ll continue our discussion next week and determine which book we think should win.
