We have some amazing news: Moon Pie has officially finished her Stereotactic Radiation treatment! She handled the process like a total pro. While she’s still a bit tired, she’s back to her usual self—taking walks, eating well, and exploring.

The team at MOU was incredible, cheering her on every step of the way. To be honest, the journey was a bit of a marathon for us, too. Between daily drop-offs, a literal bat situation at our first Airbnb, and getting my car towed in the snow at the second place, it’s been a chaotic few weeks. Amidst all this, my grandfather, Irv, passed away. I’ll share more on his wonderful life later, but needless to say, we are beyond relieved to finally be home.

The Silver Lining:
Because of the location of her tumors, the team was able to treat the one near her heart and the one in her lungs simultaneously. This brought the cost down from $11,000 to $8,000!

This has been one of the hardest weeks, watching our brave Moon Pie face the intensity of stereotactic radiation in Columbia. Wednesday started with her trembling in pure fear, her eyes bloodshot and woozy from the heavy sedation needed to save her life. It breaks our heart to see her go through the intense coughing from her daily intubation, but even through the fog of anesthesia, she has remained a complete champ.

Moon Pie is a survivor, and she is already bonding with her wonderful nurse, Michelle, who has been a light in this dark week. We’re am doing everything in our power to keep her here—I’ve opened a new credit card and put down a $5,000 deposit just to get her through these doors. I won’t let a price tag be the reason we lose our girl, but the financial weight is immense.

This weekend, we’ve found peace in the quiet moments—resting, recovering, and even taking two short, beautiful walks in the park. Seeing her tail wag after such a brutal week reminds me exactly why we are fighting this battle. After initially hearing devastating news, doctors now believe her tumor is a slower-growing type that makes advanced radiation a viable, life-saving path. While your incredible support has covered her emergency care thus far, we have arrived at our next vital hurdle: a $2,500 specialized CT scan required to map her treatment safely. This scan is the “GPS” the doctors need before we can begin the actual radiation process to shrink her tumor. A few years ago, my career reputation as an artist was under attack. It was an intense situation that made me sick and left me feeling cornered. I was in serious trouble and needed help.

Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts (WALA) stepped in during that emergency. They provided the legal education, guidance, and support that helped me not only survive that crisis but to build a stable, thriving career.
