Was talking with a friend last night and they made a joke about how ”stuck in the past” I can be. They talked about how long it took me to get rid of my Canon AE-1 Program camera and my letting go of “outdated” tech. They laughed at my unwillingness to embrace the digital age and instead, I doggedly continued to use Ilford film and get my negatives developed the “old way”.
I listened and even laughed at some of things that they said. I wasn’t even a little offended. At all.
I asked them if they still had the print that I made for them about twenty five years ago. A picture of their wedding day that I caught candidly. They said that they did, and that in fact, it was still hanging on their wall.
Twenty-five years ago. Old school tech. Still hanging on their wall.
I love what tech allows us to do. In fact, I am writing this on a beautiful iPad Air, 4th generation with a Zagg keyboard, and I have to say, it’s far faster than my trusty Bic medium and a legal pad.
What I see behind the camera, through the lens and translated into the raw image is not tech-dependent. Our relationship during our sessions is not tech-dependent. The point is, the tech is a tool, like any other and the real treasure is, you.
My role is to capture you in the best way possible, in the moment. All of the post-work with the software and computer edits can never, ever take the place of your smile, your eyes, the way you look at one another or the way the sun reflects off of the water. Yes, we can create such “effects” through computers and yet, in the moment, standing in the sun and having that moment captured is a feeling that no amount tech can take the place of.
Have a truly beautiful day and perhaps remember to take a moment to look up at the sky, close your eyes and breathe in….
One person asked me today about my photography website.
I had expected to have it done last week and yet, as life happens, those things that I could not have anticipated did indeed arise.
It will come.
As I was working on my site this morning, it finally occurred to me, in ways that I could not have foreseen, that my “return” to photography and videography is allowing me to more fully incorporate my passions into projects with and for those that “get” my “style” and sensibilities.
I love to tell stories, whether in written form, musically or visually, I believe, with all that I am, that our lives and loves are not meant to be just momentary glimpses of happiness and joy, and further, that if we can partner with those that embrace our personal visions, then together, we can create lasting impressions founded upon and created through a willingness to be who we are.
I capture those moments with what I hope is a genuine appreciation for your story. It is not my story, in those moments that you are sharing who you are, and as such, I merely serve as the scribe. The recorder.
Let me share your story…
The video that I have included here is one that I made as an intro to my other passion, which is being a Life Coach. The wording. The choice in imagery. The music, written/composed, arranged and performed by me in this instance, is all about Love.
This is all so very personal to me. Truly.
What’s your story?

You’ve always been beautiful….

My photography website will be up and running (or should be) some time this week! If you’re in St. Louis, I’ll be running a promo that I’ve never run before.
I am trying to balance this page and website together without repetition and as such, keeping both fresh and relevant without excessive duplication.

As a photographer and the kind of person I am, and how I see and love this life we’re all in, I believe that each of us is uniquely beautiful. My role in all of this is merely to capture what already exists.
You are, right now, this very moment, beautiful.
As COVID continues to be a very real aspect of our lives, with all of the changes and considerations, I am back to do what I love doing.
It’s good be back. It really is.
