The practice recommendation covers the full spectrum of ocular injuries and vision dysfunction following blast exposure and TBI. It includes guidance on oculomotor dysfunction, recommendations for the evaluation and management of ocular trauma, urgent and non-urgent eye conditions, neuro-ophthalmic disorders, vision impairment, referral pathways, standardized clinical workflows and evidence-based management across the continuum of care.

New resource offers guidance on ocular and vision dysfunction following brain injury The practice recommendation was developed by optometrists at the U.S. Defense Health Agency - Vision Center of Excellence and is applicable to both military and civilian providers.

AOA Board Executive Committee members and the American Optometric Student Association Board met to discuss this year’s AOA+, where more than 2,500 students took over Phoenix and took part in countless opportunities to network and learn from their peers and colleagues from across the country. During the conversation, the doctors and students discussed opportunities to work together to advance optometry and seize the opportunities ahead.

The AOA Board Executive Committee connected with the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry Board as well to discuss opportunities to collaborate, the strong future of optometric education, the essential and expanding role of optometry and the opportunities ahead.

The AOA Board Executive Committee had the opportunity to preview Alcon’s Surgical Innovation Experience, discussing the importance of innovations in care as optometry continues to advance the profession’s essential and expanding eye and vision care role.

In a major win for Californians on Medi-Cal, a new law requires the state to develop evidence-based utilization benchmarks for eye care and will provide insight into whether both children and adults on Medi-Cal can access eye care, how long they wait for care and whether there are enough available providers.

New California law creates first-ever benchmarks for Medicaid vision care The new law was inspired by an optometry-commissioned report that found more than 4 million children without vision services.
