Check out the before and after photos of another charming kitchen. Don't be afraid to make structural adjustments! They open up great design opportunities. This family struggled with a dark, choppy kitchen with little storage. We improved the space by adding lots of light, better flow and loads of space for a growing family with zero additional square footage!

Downsize doesn't mean downgrade. These homeowners decided with kids off to college it was time to scale back. At our first meeting they seemed caught between being overwhelmed by an extensive renovation but underwhelmed by the kitchen, bathroom and living space. With some structural modifications, a fresh layout with lots of added light, a decor that suited their vibe their feelings about the house are now bigger and better. Manor House Kitchen in Richmond Heights, MO. The former Montana residents wanted to create a gathering spot for family that provided access to the pool and an outdoor entertaining area. The original kitchen was too small with no connection to the backyard. After many design directions, it was ultimately decided that less is more and a kitchen/ living addition with outdoor patio would suffice. The architect felt that the scale of the addition needed to be integrated like a manor house kitchen to compliment the manor house quality of the home. Matching the brick and clay tile roof were the first steps, but creating a form that was simple but had some pizzazz became the design goal. The design of the hipped dormer meant the ceiling could come to life. The slope of the roof is mirrored in the folds of the kitchen ceiling adding dimension and texture to the space. The window configuration at the sink wall and above let natural light fill the space and allow shadows make the space feel as if it is always changing. Double the kitchen space and a wonderful living room space meant room for family and friends. Access to the covered patio with a dual-sided fireplace complete the home as summer and fall months are spent there . The original kitchen serves as the mudroom and the connection between old and new is through a butler’s pantry area with beautiful cased openings.
