Hi! My name is Tanesha Johnson and I am a doctoral candidate in clinical psychology interested in the impact of racial discrimination and people’s mental health (both the positive and negative aspects). I am asking for your participation as well as your help in distributing this survey by forwarding this email to other people you know who are an African American or Black parent of a Black teenager (between the ages of 13 to 19 years old). I am asking for your participation as well as for your help in distributing this survey by sharing and forwarding this message to other Black parents that you know.

Participation in this study will involve parents and teens individually completing an online questionnaires that should take no more than 60 minutes. Responses will remain anonymous. There is also an opportunity for both parents and teens to enter a raffle for a $25 Amazon gift card.

This knowledge to be obtained and used in an effort to help Black Americans and to better understand racial discrimination as well as its impact on mental health broadly.

To participate you must meet the following criteria:
* Be older than 18 years old
* Identify as Black/African American
* Be the parent or guardian of a Black teenager between the ages of 13 to 19 years old

Here is the link to the survey: bit.ly/BlackTeenStudy

Minnesota black man shot by US police in car - BBC News 07/07/2016

Tragedies like this one continue to affect people at an individual and institutional level. Exposure to such tragedies has been found to negatively impact both physical and mental health, and while institutional change may be craved, it cannot be attained without proper individual care. Do not forget to tend to your emotional needs and seek out help where you may need it.
