In 2022, Hong Kong launched a pilot program installing ground-level LED traffic lights at selected crossings to improve safety for pedestrians focused on their phones. The illuminated red and green strips were synchronized with standard signals, adding a second visual cue at curb level. The trial was part of broader road-safety efforts aimed at reducing pedestrian accidents in high-traffic districts.
