I plan to sell egg “collections” this year. This will offer a variety of potential egg layers without having to purchase all of one breed. Here are a couple of examples I was able to come up with this week.
But my question to you is: if you were to purchase a grouping of eggs, would you want the eggs to fit that description or the potential offspring? This is mostly in relation to Seafoam & Olive Eggers. Those parent eggs can be brown (or even blue). Would that be confusing if you wanted the Ocean’s Twelve (green & blues) and you opened up the box to see brown eggs? These would be bred to blue egg gene birds for green egg offspring.

I guess I’m trying to figure out if they should be advertised by the eggs you see or by the eggs you’ll get from those that hatch. What are your thoughts?

It’s that time of year again…..HATCHING SEASON!!!!
Next week we have our first batch hatching. It’s not a lot of eggs, and I’ll only have one chocolate Orpington available. The following week looks better with about 5 of our Frabjious Frizzle due to hatch.
This week I’m working on getting the brooder room cleaned out and refreshed for a new season. Hopefully I can get that done before storms hit mid week.
But check out this week’s set!! If this group passes the fertility check, I’ll start opening up orders for hatching eggs.
Give me a few days and I’ll try to have more info about what birds are in our Egger pens and cool new hatching batch options. With a potential move in our future, I’d really like to sell more eggs than set them.

Hatching season is upon us! I just set our first hatch of the ‘26/‘27 season. It’s only 10 eggs, but fall & winter hatches tend to be smaller.
I wanted to let everyone know what breeds I have in breeding pens this year. These include:

Bielefelder
- rare breed, autosexing, fast growing, brown egg

Mottled Houdan
- rare breed, exhibition line, white egg

Swedish Flower Hen
- rare breed, multiple colors, crested male over non-crested females, light brown egg

Crele Penedesenca
- rare breed, autosexing, exhibition line, terra cotta egg

Salmon Faverolles
- rare breed, dimorphic, exhibition line, cream egg

Iowa Blue
- rare breed, exhibition line, white/cream egg

Chocolate English Orpington
- from breeder stock, light brown egg

BBS Laced Silver Wyandotte
- utility line, can produce blue, black, or splash laced offspring, light brown egg

Tolbunt/Golden Polish
- rare breed, exhibition line (Tolbunt), utility line (golden), working to darken the Tolbunt line by using golden- chicks could appear golden (they’ll be split for mottling), there is a chance for frizzle as well

- homozygous blue egg Ermine Ameraucana over frizzled hens - both homozygous & heterozygous blue egg genes

Olive Eggers
- Crele Penedesenca over homozygous blue egg gene hens.

Turquoise Gem
- homozygous blue egg gene frizzled cockbird over heterozygous blue egg gene hens

This year I plan to focus a bit more on shipping eggs. I’m going to be offering mix dozens as well as the usual breed specific dozens. I am not going to do waiting lists this year. I will take orders and ship those as they come available- payments will be prepaid. (I will not ship from Thanksgiving through the New Year.)
Some of the ideas I have are sets of eggs instead of all one breed.

- “Ocean’s Twelve”- the Olive Eggers, Frabjious Frizzle, & Turquoise Gem.

- “Earth Bound”- just the brown eggs (Bielefelder, Swedish Flower, Wyandotte, Faverolles, Penedesenca, Orpington).

- “White (I’ll come up with a name)”- white eggs (Houdan, Iowa Blue, Polish)

- “Exhibition Lines”- most of these are birds I show, but may not be APA accepted yet- the breed groups are working on it.

- “Crested Crew” - Houdan, Polish, Swedish (though Swedish might be non-crested too).

- “Head of the Class” - breeds that are all in the same class like Continental & American.

- “Chasing the Rainbow”- a mix of all the colors possible from the flocks.

- “Hen’s Choice”- whatever happens to have been laid on a particular day.

- “Custom Order” - pick what breed you want and the number of eggs you want.

We’re back!!

So physical we’re back; now it’s time to get the coops cleaned and birds moved into breeding pens so we can start our ‘26/‘27 breeding season.

I’ve had to make a few changes to my original plan of pens.
I will not have Russian Orloff available this year- unless I can find a new cockbird.
I do plan on having three Egger pens though. I was originally going to have two, but after looking at which birds were frizzles, I decided I needed to move frizzled hens to a dedicated frizzle pen since I plan on using a frizzled cockbird over the OE hens for our Turquoise Gem line. This will give me an opportunity to utilize one of the ermine Ameraucana that I didn’t use last year.
The OE pen will be homozygous blue layers with the Penedesenca cockbird. This has produced some amazing Olive Eggers in the past.

I’m going to be offering sets of eggs this year as mixes too. These seem to be popular with a lot of other breeders as well. So there will be dozens in “ocean”, “rainbow”, “earth tones”, “hen’s choice”, “rare breeds”, “frizzles”, “exhibition breeds”, etc. I’ll have more info on these as the time comes.

I’m hoping to start setting eggs by mid September to start the hatching season in October. So I may have chicks available again starting October - this is completely reliant upon the hens and their laying.

Hatching season is officially over for the season!!
Eggs will still be available (locally) for those that want to hatch, but we’re done until September here at Rebel’s Flying Feathers & The Chicken Addiction Poultry Shop.
We still have chicks available for the next month. The shop will be closed for the month of August as we enjoy a little R&R in Alaska.
We’ll fire up the incubators again in September and begin the next hatching season in October. So if you didn’t get chicks this spring; hopefully we’ll have what you’re looking for this fall.

The incubator has officially been turned off! The last set of eggs went into the Hatcher for lockdown. Time for a three month break.
Bird will be reassessed late August/early September and put into breeding pens again and the incubator will be loaded again to begin our ‘26/‘27 hatching season in October.

I will be assessing breeds this fall to see which are staying and which are going. As of right now, I’m considering cutting the Columbian Wyandotte & Isabel Cuckoo Orpington from the lineup. I’m also considering thinning out the Iowa Blue flock (I honestly need to get into the habit of rotating out my older stock).
