🚨 MISSOURI VOTERS: PAY ATTENTION TO THE AUGUST 4 PRIMARY 🚨
Two major constitutional amendments that could shape Missouri for years are officially on the August 4 ballot.
🗳️ AMENDMENT 4
Would change how citizen‑led constitutional amendments pass. A simple statewide majority would no longer be enough. Instead, proposals would also need majority approval in every congressional district.
What that means: If even one district votes “No,” the amendment fails — even if a strong statewide majority votes “Yes.”
Important: This new requirement would apply only to amendments put on the ballot by citizens. Amendments placed on the ballot by legislators would not be held to this standard and would still pass with a simple statewide majority.
💰 AMENDMENT 5
Would begin phasing out Missouri’s state income tax — the largest source of general revenue — forcing the state to replace billions of dollars through expanded or higher sales taxes.
That shift would likely raise costs for most Missourians, especially seniors and middle‑income families, while reducing taxes for the highest earners.
Because income tax funds schools, health care, child welfare, and other core services, eliminating it would fundamentally reshape how Missouri pays for essential public programs and could lead to major cuts or new taxes to fill the gap.
These issues are complex. They matter. And turnout in August primaries is typically very low, meaning a small number of voters can end up making decisions that affect all Missourians.
